A low-end 2 group commercial machine is c$5,000. The last one I purchased was $10,000 (mid range). If you're serious about being able to produce really good coffee at home, $685 is about the price point you need to look at.

I use Kicking Horse (Kickass, it has a green label on a black bag), if I bother at all. I refuse to drink Tim's as it's too bitter for me. If I'm out and fancy a coffee I buy McDonald's. It's not very often I drink it TBH but I've always got some on hand in case we get any visitors.

I actually prefer instant with powdered milk

I guess it's what you grew up with

Kicking horse is good coffee. A little strong compared to what I would usually have but still pretty good

I've found them the best for flavour and value combined. I have one for just 2 mugs and one that makes twice as much. In the 2 mug beaker I use 2 great heaping teaspoons of coffee and that makes 2 travel mugs + dregs. In the Keurig I heaping tsp in the basket made less than a mug and it was weaker. If I used 1 1/2 tsp or 2, nearly filling up the basket, it was tolerable. Imo the bodum (French press) is better because it not only filters but steeps the grounds. The Vietnamese adopted the press (I suspect a component of French army mess kits may have been the inspiration) and made the little steel 1 cup presses used for iced coffee. A friend takes one of these to work with him and uses it.

I generally only drink coffee at work since the Mrs doesn't drink it, or even like the smell. We do have a jar of some sort of instant I use from time to time but I'm clearly not a connoisseur. I do know enough to find Tim's vile, McDonald's surprisingly acceptable and Starbucks just too Millennial for me.

At work we have a couple of industrial sized machines that grind and brew. We support a local roaster Home - Jumping Bean Coffee . Their East Coast Roast is my got to grind.

I've considered getting something for home - but don't want a pod based system. Toyed with getting a cafetiere as the simplest option.

I have lost faith in all of humanity

A thread about coffee and Brits talking about it?
Did we drink coffee in the good old days of the Empire? What has become of that great nation when we are now talking about coffee.

FFS somebody will be telling me we now prefer croissants instead of crumpets.

The all important question regarding coffee, is how you take it? I'm talking bog standard filter coffee.

Black, with milk, or with cream?

Reason I ask is because it is virtually impossible to buy fresh coffee cream in the UK. Well that might be a slight exaggeration, but I could not find any in Tescos/Sainsbury's etc.
Best I could find was double cream mixed with milk.

Here we have half and half, 10%, 18% etc.

Oh come on given in the context it was said it was rather funny.

Yes if I want to put on my caring, sympathetic head homelessness is a serious problem but as with everything else in this world we can't be serious all of the time. I suppose I shouldn't laugh at the Gifs about Donald Trump being elected as thats a pretty serious subject as well.
