We have three candy canes stuck outside the corner of our house. We like to think people will guess we are English and understand....

It's still too early Iain None of this "light 'em up for 8 weeks before the big day" nonsense ...

Ah, I see you have managed to convince your family that Xmas is at the end of January in order to save big money on pressies in the January sales

Good Thinking!

Not quite

But switching the lights on for the 2nd November, the day after the Halloween decs came down and the day after putting up the Xmas lights is, in my humble opinion, far too early. My neighbourhood has been lit up like, well, a Christmas tree for nearly a month now already.

I just feel it takes that 'something special' feeling away from it all. However, I did sing in a Xmas choral concert last night so The First Noel is making it's way into my Christmas concience now. Maybe I'll give in and put some up this weekend, and perhaps switch them on next week ?

Don't forget, we're still new to this - only our second Christmas here - come back to me in five years, and I too will be illuminated on the 2nd November

You only have to put them up once in finger numbing, clip snapping sub zero temps to decide that you will get them up in November in future

I dont see the point in having them turned on in November any more than you do, but I want to get them up. We dont think of them as exclusively Xmas lights, for us they brighten up the long dreary winter evenings.

We are now 4 parades and 2 seniors concerts down, 3 and 3 to go. Every time we play "Let it snow" it bloody well does! Bah Humbug.

Anyway my point was most people probably have theirs up by now, so where are those pictures? Given how crap the LED ones look in my picture compared to the old ones, I'm not suprised people are not showing them off..

Ours went up a few weeks ago and we switched them on on Sunday - a day early in my book but I wanted to test them on a weekend so I could set the timer and forget about it until January. Haven't taken a picture of this year's crop yet. I will do so and post it here!

Souvenir is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Christmas decorations.

We have simple of string of blue lights around the front of the house. Understated chic. They went up a while ago but I didn't allow the Mrs to turn them on until the 1st. I have also graciously agreed to let her do the tree thing next weekend. **** knows why we're bothering. There are no presents to put under it and we won't even be here at Christmas.

I think those all-singing, all-dancing displays are really clever, in a electronics geeky kind of way. To have the knowledge and equipment to choreograph those is pretty impressive stuff.

Mind you, I wouldn't want to live next door to that - my icicle lights and my sole reindeer would look sad and lonely and, frankly, quite pathetic

I too have a lonely reindeer- I want another to match - but they were sold out. Might have to let it have babies.

They showed you how to make your own reindeer on Cityline this week - it involves hand tools and bits of tree so the OH should enjoy it!
