CBC As it happens gets an F
I know you won't believe this but the host of the above referenced radio show, just said "the degree (from a UK uni) was awarded Magna Cum Loud".
I mean, really....

In our halls of residence back when I was at college Big Liz from Manchester was renowned for her magna cum loud. I never had a go, but apparently a few of her lecturers did, so no doubt it was factored in as part of her course work? Judging by the state of the lecturers it should have at the very least been considered as charity work.

Don't get me wrong, I would have, but I was young and a bit shy at the time and after hearing what can best be described as the sounds of an abattoir echoing through the halls felt a little intimidated and doubted whether I would be up to the job.

Newscasters in Canada are at best semi-literate. Most appear to be unaware that mischievous is neither spelled nor pronounced as mischievious. I am always relieved when March arrives and I don't have to hear every announcer on radio and television pronounce the second month of the year "Febyouery". I even pointed this out to one well-known broadcaster but she persisted in demonstrating not only her ignorance and lack of education but her arrogance.

I've actually never heard that phrase before, can hardly make fun of someone for getting it wrong. There are so many words in the english language that are impossible to say properly unless you've heard them before - granted though that this is latin. I guess I'd expect more from CBC but there you go.
These are the two pronunciations I found, north american is "loudER" where as british is "loudEY" - perhaps that's where the issue started? :P
Merriam Webster (US) Magna Cum Laude: http://media.merriam-webster.com/sou...m/magnac02.wav

The presenter's name is Carol Off. Perhaps that explains it.
