Carpet cleaning gadgets
 

We've done vacuum cleaners and now I am looking into carpet cleaners. I was going to hire Rug Doctor but they need you to have a mastercard or visa credit card and we have neither.

So, given that the new vac combined with some bicarb based cleaning powder has cleaned up the smell and general crud from the carpets, do carpet cleaners work? I am not thinking of the huge beaty sweepy models but the ones that just apply shampoo.

Also the people who lived here seem never to have vacuumed the edges so there's a black line all along the carpet next to the baseboards .

I am too lazy to get down on my hands and knees and scrub, so would be very pleased to discover a gadget that works.

We bought a Bissell Proheat 2X and have been very pleased with it. The light coloured carpets we have have come up really well. It does edges well. It doesnt leave the carpet sopping wet either so you can actually walk on it not long afterwards. We can recommend it (we bought it from Walmart) :)

The best way to deal with cruddy carpets is to rip them up and put down hardwood.

We had a bissell in the UK and it was brilliant. I had tried other brands in the past and the bissell was the best by miles.

I am happy with the carpets. I much prefer them to hardwood.

I think they have that one in Costco right now for $229? maybe 249. Is it ok on wool carpets as I think the ones we have are wool.

I was also thinking of the cheaper gadgets that shampoo only, as my vac is pretty good. Have you tried them at all?

You can rent that sort of stuff from e.g. Loblaws.

But as stated in the original post they want Mastercard or Visa credit card for security and Fledermaus said they have neither. ;)

Ours cost around $240 mark from Walmart. Carpets here are not wool so cannot comment. We have a mixture here of wood, ceramic tile and carpet and I must say I do like the wood, it is so easy to keep clean. When we lived in the UK I didnt like the idea of wood floors as they always seemed so noisey but ours are great. :)
