At the car wash, yeah...

What do you do ?

Re: At the car wash, yeah...

well it only takes 2 mins to get your code, by that time you're still waiting for the guy thats in there already.

If you purchase and then line up there could be a massive influx of others in the meatime.

Time is money as they say! And in redneck dirty dust ridden truck filled central AB, the carwashes are always busy!

Purchase a code; that sounds very fancy.

In Calgary, I could never be bothered to queue for the length of time required to use a commercial operation so I purchased a pressure washer and did it at home. I don't care for shampoo, wax, etc., just getting rid of the grime was enough for me.

In High River, a queue of more than one seems extraordinary so, when the urge takes me, I queue and purchase the program I require when it is my turn (the machine is situated just before entering the washer (touchless). The non-touchless allow you to choose the program as it is running, no code required.

I haven't washed the car, they do that when it's serviced.

The car'll get washed just before it goes back off lease. No sooner. No later.

I used to get my car washed when I was single quite a bit. Sort of like aftershave and things like that, now I can't be arsed.

I do not drive, so I don't wash the car.

I limit my input to emptying the ashtray, chucking out empty water bottles, relaxing in the passenger seat and clenching my buttocks anywhere near Montreal.

That's sound like my husband!

And I can't be bothered so the kids do it, about once a year.

I don't wash my car. I live in coastal BC where we get a car wash from the sky about every second day.

Car wash? codes? what's that? we don't have such sophistication in rural NS!!!!

Yeah really, keska-say codes? Here I just drive in, put loons or toons in the slot and start washing. I always use the foremost bay so I don't hold anyone up and close the door after.

Close the door of the car? Thought everybody did that so the inside doesn't get wet?

The big garage doors you drive in and out of, some people take off without closing it when they drive away.

Too much sophistication. The best we have here is a pressure hose thingy. So I do it at home... well intend to anyway! lol

Codes are a pretty standard set-up in Britain now. You buy a car wash at the petrol counter, are given a little receipt with a six digit code printed on it, drive up to the wash and punch it into the entry keypad. I thought I had used the same system in Canada, and that was the standard set up for car washes these days. Perhaps not. I'm not an obsessive car washer myself (maybe once every few months), but given the comments on here, it's all relative!

You describe the type I use and is available all over the GTA. The price is determined by the amount of gas purchased.

Shard, I live in rural NS. If Canada is behind the UK, Yarmouth NS is behind Canada! lol

So, is the fee X without gas and X-% of gas purchased, with gas?

IIRC certain gas stations operate something similar here but, as their prices are usually more than the stand alone car washes, most use the stand alone ones.

I actually got out the bucket and sponge and cleaned the wife's car traditional stylee a few weeks back. It was fairly enjoyable, but I can't say I'll be going out of my way to do it on a regular basis.

I think I remember washing Dad's car being fun when I was about 8, the romance of the gas lawn mower lasted till 14.

Gas mower virgin 'till last summer. Fun for a bit, but really, what's with this cradles and their lawns thing?.. I'm trying to convince the Mrs. that a "nature" garden is the way to go.

Trying to convince the OH that we should replace the grass with astro turf;)

At work, in front of the back door of the Club, is a piece of astro-turf from the Skydome in TO that my friend Elton brought back in his Conklin Shows trailer waaay back when. I am so going to take that to the trailer in BC with me!

OH washes the car (s) with his trusty bucket and chamois leather and then waxes if required.

Purchase code at the pump with fuel ($2 or $3 discount if $30 or more spent on fuel). Never queue though, I just call in some time I'm passing when no one is waiting. The code can remain in my wallet unused for weeks. It's suprising how many people will queue for a car wash - 10 vehicles at the weekend isn't uncommon.

And most of them look perfectly clean to me.

I don't go into petrol stations that have a car wash, I avoid Canadian Tyre stations specifically because they have car washes. It's bad enough to have to get out of the warm car to pump petrol without having to take your gloves off and jab at buttons to answer stupid questions "do you have an affinity card?", "do you want a car wash?", "are you sure you don't want a car wash it comes with an low introductory rate life insurance policy?", "how about a waxing?", "a hand job?", "a consumer credit card?". NO FFS; just let me start the pump, jam the catch and sit in the car until the tank's full!
