There's an old Private Eye cover - 1970s? - with the Queen on an African tour doing something similar, but hands a bit closer together.

"Some of them have them this big" or something like that.

That's not the Queen, it's Enoch Powell.

Of course I might be being a too anal about this. Perhaps she was only saying "Look, this is what normal fingers look like. look like. I said. This is a special occasion, a special occasion which I think is special"
