Cannabis in Britain, current laws

Can anyone tell me what the current British laws are concerning cannabis use? I think that its considered ok if you have enough for your personal use but not if you have bought some to share with your friends?? So how much would a personal use amount be? How likely are you to be prosecuted and whats the penalty??

I have a young friend who is being a little careless in his use of the stuff, my worry is that he will end up with a police record that will eff up his chances of work in healthcare, teaching, etc, not to mention any work immigration visas he may apply for.

I know there are a few police officers on here so perhaps they can help.

Thanks!

Hi I am not a Police Officer but do have some dealing via work with this type of thing. I am not sure that the Police can say what is or is not personal use. If it is only a small amount and they thing it is for personal use then they can take the persons details, give him a warning and seize the drugs.

If they thing he is dealing then he could be taken to court and face a fine or prison.

However I thing you should be worried not only for your friends criminal record but his health as well. This stuff i not as safe as the UK Government would have us thing and there can be long term problems.

At the end of the day its better not to touch the stuff.

Good luck and hope it works out for your friend.
