Re: Canadian supermarkets
Why thank you kindly ma'am....but my ship came in today. Well not literally but my Christmas box and among the items four malt loaves... In the freezer they go!
Where do you get them from for future reference?

A box of Alpen caught my eye in Shoppers tonight. It was actually "no sugar added" but it still looked too crunchy a style to be like the 'British' version. Nearest thing yet though.

Re: Canadian supermarkets
I think UK supermarkets are better. For a start, not everything is sold in sizes that suit a family of eight. The cheese is better. The bread is better. They sell beer, wine and spirits. There is more continental food. The only downsides are sometimes having to pay for parking or cramped aisles.
I am still yet to find a nice bit of Stilton (not blue cheese).
I am guessing when I do find it, it will cost about half of my bi weekly pay cheque...

I'm not sure if you mean you could only find other blue cheese rather than Stilton or that you want Stilton but not the blue kind.
Either way, there's no problem getting it here. I can't imagine why you couldn't find it in Van.
I had some white Stilton with mango and ginger the other day. It was gorgeous.

Re: Canadian supermarkets
Costco sell Stilton at Xmas. We are still eating our Xmas stash.
Delicious and not expensive.
Malt loaves can he made using the BBC god food recipe website. Canadians have never heard of muscovado sugar, but dark brown sugar or molasses works instead. Health food shops sell malt extract. Works out just like Soreen. Yummy.
