Has anyone exchanged $ for Pounds recently???
I'm thinking with the dollar being fairly strong, it's best to exchange in UK.

Emm, because i want to exchange Dollars for Pounds, and was looking for advice....as is the point of this forum

I didn't mean to be rude, but there are dozens of similar threads already, most of which are started by people moving their life savings in one direction or the other. All sorts of advice is already available and there's no doubt that saving a tiny percentage of a huge sum is worth investigating.

However if we're talking about pocket change for a holiday? Not so much.

Agreed there's loads of threads regarding large money exchanges, but i couldn't find any with regards to my question.
Pocket change for a holiday indeed, but even with a quick calculation the difference can be about 50 Quid:sneaky: which can be a few extra fish suppers and lager shandies.......definitely not to be sniffed at:lol:

Well of course when you put it like that. :)

My advice would be to simply charge everything you can while in the UK to your Canadian credit card. No doubt you'll need some cash too, so simply withdraw it from bank machines in the UK. In both instances you'll receive perfectly reasonable exchange rates, but here's the trick: don't take out a lot of small amounts since there's often a flat $5 fee per cash withdrawal transaction. So take out larger amounts less frequently.

I would add that the relative strength of the $ and the pound is completely beside the point.

Also tell your bank before you go because my RBC can change your acct temporarily to avoid these expensive ATM charges. It cost me tons in ATM charges when I went to the US, which I could of avoided by calling them & paying a few dollars up front.

That's good advice too. I also tell my bank (TD) to increase my daily max cash withdrawal to the highest allowed level before going away for extended periods.
