Default Canada's Tropical Storm

We've heard from our son and granddaughters living in Nova Scotia. They have only lost power and have no other damages thank goodness. Understand that Newfoundland is being hit hard. How are our lovely members who live in that area of Canada doing?

All last week I was a bit worried. We get the tail ends of these hurricanes, downgraded but still an "event" once or twice a year but this one was spoken of in advance differently.

Not just the usual warnings but the need to "pay more attention" to this one. And on the night, instead of broadcasting their usual selection of shows from radio stations around the world, CBC Radio had a live broadcast throughout the night, giving out updates, having people call in with reports about their area and so on. I've never known that before.

No damage around our street and we didn't even lose power. We're lucky here as we can get switched over to a different grid while the other side of the road that crosses the top of our street can lose power when we don't. There was one time when ours was off on a Sunday night about 8.00 and back on 3.00 Monday morning but theirs didn't come back until Tuesday.

Anyway, parts of Moncton and on to the coast lost power, but I'm hearing most people in NS and PEI are/were without power from Friday to Sunday and maybe beyond.

Good video on CBC of it.

Glad that you weren't hit directly or hard.

I have family living on the west coast of Florida (no, not mouse world) but they've decided to stay through Ian. Just hoping it doesn't hit them as a category 3 or 4.

Speaking from Tampa bay I think it s a bit early to decide to stay. In a couple of days it will be clearer and which direction to run will be more evident I am prepared to head east or south or north depending on the path. Maybe time for a Hurricane Ian thread!

East coast of Nfld got off Scott free. Yesterday was a sunny, pleasant day with a a bit of a breeze. However the south west, particularly the town of Port aux Basques (where the ferry to NS goes from) was devastated. 20+ houses destroyed, 1 person killed, just terrible destruction.

It was quite a storm. Where I live only had a few downed trees and, thankfully, we never lost power. Internet service is out at home. Centre of Halifax, though, seems to have taken a bit of a beating. Very impressed with the linesmen... they have set about their task with gusto and made rapid progress on reducing the numbers without power.

Apparently an extra few thousand homes near here lost power yesterday, more than 24 hours after it all went peaceful. Power company investigating.

So what happened to Rete's family, and RICH?

We were lucky down here in Cayman. Ian brushed past us before it strengthened. But the season is still with us, so I'm not going to throw out all my water-barrels just yet!
