Canada is to climate what Japan is to whaling?

What I've been doing for the last several decades. Research in atmospheric science and contribute to the development of science based environmental policy.

I say nuts to it. The world is overpopulated as it is. A massive cull due to shortage of food, fresh water is long overdue. Forcing people to live without frills will soon put a stop to superfluous nonsense such as what is causing global warming. Next we will be debating whether there is water on Mars and, if so, whether it was the conservatives or the liberals that were responsible for putting it there.

I wager he would have a meeting to discuss what to do.

The policy being to prevent further climate change of course.
Edit: I don't mean to be flippant but it is a rather complex set of issues which are to be dealt with. A one-liner isn't really available. Feel free to PM me if you're actually interested.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a strong correlation with global warming and the increase in terrorism? Makes a lot of sense if you think about it, as nearly all terrorists come from hot countries. The fight against global warming is also helping in the war on terror. That Glenn Beck is one pretty smart fellow.

The fact that a growing country like China or India with a massive population and whose Co2 output is expected to soar will be given a free ride but other growing countries like Canada or Australia are bitched at because of per capita emissions, even though the total carbon emissions are something like 2 or 3% of the worlds total.
I'm sorry, but if rising c02 parts per million is driving climate change than the earth doesn't care where the c02 is coming from. The only number that matters is ppm, not per capita within geographic borders. The EU driven UN seems to want to create something impossible where all nations have equal per capita c02 emissions and wants to punish those that are out of line. Communism doesn't work.

The only deal that is going to work is if Europe and N.America take huge cuts in emissions as part of the price of being wealthy industrialised countries, and the developing world is allowed to industrialise with the benefit of receiving technology from the West that will curb their emissions.
They can reach a technological level similar to ours except we help them skip the smog/coal/burning the trees part. If we instead say to the likes of China; "we'll cut our emissions but so will you even though we did all the polluting" they will tell us to get stuffed and rightly so.
Nice reference to communism though, i've never heard that one trotted out before. Soon it'll be the 'New World Order' and 'global tyranny' that is to blame.

I was at the Royal Tyrrell Museum the other weekend. In the past that area has been both a tropical forest and covered with a glacier one mile thick - all part of a natural cycle. Man has certainly speeded up the emission of the carbon but it would mostly have found its way into the atmosphere in time anyway.
It's certainly worth trying to make sensible attempts to reduce use of fuels as they are scarce resources and responsible stewardship of them is a good thing. However, the reality is change is probably taking place so there should also be a focus on taking cost effective measures to adapt to the possible consequences of change rather than trying to stop change.

Think on it like this; Almost ALL the CO2 increase over the past 250 years has come from Europe and North America. Only in the last 20 years have China and India come anywhere NEAR our per capita levels and they are still a long way off.
The only deal that is going to work is if Europe and N.America take huge cuts in emissions as part of the price of being wealthy industrialised countries, and the developing world is allowed to industrialise with the benefit of receiving technology from the West that will curb their emissions.
