I never want an electric car. I don't believe they save the environment at all. We went to Calgary and back today. Had we had an electric vehicle we would have had to stop somewhere and charge up. Where is the convenience in that?

Exactly what i'm saying. If the power doesn't come from green sources you are doing no better.

To the comment about hydrogen cell vehicles being a type of EV - I did not know that. I'm hoping that post-petrol, ICE engines can live on in the likes of what porsche has seemingly created

The idea is that the through de-carbonizing the economy, power will come from green sources (nuclear, renewables etc).

Right but how close are we to achieving that as a planet? Is my being forced to give up my petrol/diesel car in 20 or 30 years really going to offset the tonnes and tonnes of emissions that China and other third world countries put into the air?

"They're doing worse in China" is a pretty feeble argument. Are we allowed slave labour so long as we don't actually murder the workers?

I don't think anyone will be forced to give up combustion engines, just nudged to not use them on a daily basis. As Toronto guy, maybe you know the song Red Barachetta by Rush who sang about this very topic - before you were born !!

That pesky climate change eh? Perhaps reducing emissions isn't such a bad idea.

No, but i'll give it a listen, I love that kind of music

And if they truly stop making new ones then eventually when my petrol one dies i'll be forced to buy an electric as the used market for petrol cars will eventually dry up, save for the odd collector car here or there.

Or porsche's eFuel will gain some traction and it won't be an issue. This is an outcome i'm hoping for.

I think Gozit is too young for the Rush audience. I know dbd33 is a big fan. especially the sentiments and the lifestyle described in this song.

Slightly past their prime period of '2112' - 'Moving Pictures'. I didn't really follow them after that. Any idea what those washing machines were for in their later live performances ? Speaking of music from back in the day, listened to a bit of Styx on Spotify recently they started to sound good again.

Who needs coal?

That free fusion reactor in the sky conveniently converts ~4 million tons of mass into energy every second. We just need to catch an extremely tiny amount of it to power all of civilization. - Elon Musk

“If all the sunlight energy striking the Earth's surface in Texas alone could be converted to electricity, it would be up to 300 times the total power output of all the power plants in the world!”
