Default Can you trust polls?

The polls didn't correctly predict the Alberta election or the BC election. There doesn't seem to be any point to paying attention to the polls as far as I can tell.

Other than pundits and the politicians, who cares what the polls are saying anyway? Do people rely upon polls to tell them for whom they must vote?

Not for me but it may encourage strategic voting in some.

Apparently it also helps a politician decide whether to run again or not.

I know a few politicians here. People that had the actual outcome of the Calgary mayoral election and the recent Provincial election very early in the proceedings. They have informed me that the polling methods used by the participants in such elections are far more accurate than those relied upon by the pundits and the media. I didn't ask why this was the case, nor do I really care.

I was informed that no one involved in those elections was surprised by any of the results so I would be amazed if any politician relied upon media type polls to make such decisions. I may be wrong though.

No. All these East Europeans are a bit shifty, if you ask me. I think it's all the beetroot and cabbage in their diet.

Like all polls, I've voted on this one, however I will say that I MAY have voted truthfully, or I MAY have lied, which is the same situation when I vote on any on-line poll.

It's bizarre that people don't repsond truthfully, unless everyone is trying to be tactician.

It is methodology, isn't it? Do you design the poll to be representative of the total poulation, or the population that is likely to vote? With low turnouts these are very different populations.

True, plus as its such a small event there aren't enough polls/pollsters to get an accurate average.
