They've banned bumping in bumper cars at Butlins. Out of all the health hazards at a typical Butlins, I don't think bumper cars should have been their major concern.

Hi. We're planning a trip in the summer with the RV in BC. We're planning on taking a couple of weeks or so and doing a circular route taking in such places as Golden, Kimberley, Cranbrook, Creston, Nelson, Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Revelstoke etc. Wondered if anyone had any recommendations on camp sites and must see places to visit or things to do.

We're not worried about all singing all dancing campsites (not even worried about hook ups as pretty self sufficient with the RV) but would like sites in or around scenic areas, rivers or lakes etc. Again, with things to see and do, we're interested in natural beauty - any particular stunning lakes, waterfalls etc? We have a couple of children, aged 9 and 5, so anything to get their interest too would be good - any really good tourist attractions?

Any helpful ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

The route you have chosen is a great one. We have done the same route many times with a few different variations - you wont be disappointed. Kimberly is beautiful with a bavarian village theme. check out the museum there. There is a Grizzly in there that was shot and killed by a young boy on a scouts hiking trip. Our friend was on the same trip as a boy when this happened. Cranbrook is also beautiful. We went on a 5 day hunting trip there last October and stayed by the river. If you are willing to go off road a little way then there are some great areas right on the river to camp that are free. Nelson is a great place to stay also. It's a hippy town and has a lot of charm. A great restaurant there is the all seasons cafe www.allseasonscafe.com The restaurant It's not that easy to find but has great food and a great atmosphere. Also, a great way to take in the scenery is on the ferry crossing at balfour. Even with the RV it's easy and free to do. Another beautiful area worth checking out on your way is Christina Lake. The lake and surrounding mountains are gorgeous and there is a great campground on the north east shore of the lake. You can spend a day boating on the lake or chill out on the beach at the south end of the lake. North of Vernon check out sugar lake http www.sugarlakecamping.com It is next to the monashee mountains and the scenery is beautiful especially if you are taking an aluminum boat or canoe with you. There are waterfalls that you can hike up to from the camp ground and lots of atv trails if you are taking atvs with you. In Penticton if you are into beautiful scenery and views then for lunch or dinner check out the lost moose lodge www.lostmooseresort.com/ the views are amazing and the food is great. As someone already suggested, in Penticton you can float down the channel between the 2 main lakes (just pop into canadian tire and buy a few floaties) or if you prefer something a little more adventurous you can go to Keremeos and float down the similkameen from the red bridge to cawston where there are rapids. Visit the wineries on Naramata bench - many of them have good restaurants overlooking lake okanagan. Many of the okanagan ski resorts have summer activities going on. Especially Sunpeaks at Kamloops. It's an all year round resort with mountain biking, hiking, golfing etc going on throughout the summer. Towards Osoyoos check out the Nkmip desert cultural centre. This is great for the kids www.nkmipdesert.com there's a trail that you take the kids on that shows native history in the area. I could go on and on as there is so much to see and do on the route you have chosen.

Just wanted to say thank you again to all of you who gave me helpful suggestions for our camping trip in BC. We got home just a few days ago after spending about two and a half weeks travelling about and had a great time, even though the weather wasn't that great; just glad we weren't tenting! That said, we did also have the pleasure of a flat tire, generator exhaust falling off, a blocked loo and getting locked out! Thank goodness for having young children who can be pushed through small windows!

Anyway, ended up staying in campsites in Radium, Fort Steele, Crawford Bay, Bridesville (nr Osoyoos), Summerland, Mabel Lake, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke and Golden. A couple of dodgy campsites (Summerland and Salmon Arm) but the rest were good and the one at Bridesville was exceptional  (full hook-up for $25 a night and we had the place to ourselves the first night and two other families there the second!).

Did the ferry, waterfalls, wolf centre, lots of beaches, swimming in lakes, boating, hot springs, water parks etc etc. Still lots we didn't get to do but, hey, there's always next time! ;)
