Call The Midwife
Anyone seen this, newish programme on BBC. Sounds pretty interesting. It's set in London in the 1950's from what I saw of the trailer.

Not seen it but I'm sure I have read a very similar sounding book!

Re: Call The Midwife
Seen it - episode one - slightly slow but probably due to introducing characters and the nuns. Could be more suited to a female audience given the midwife bit but a nice introduction into the beginnings of the NHS and what would have happened before it ...ie, no C-sections etc.
Episode two with Miranda Hart (not sure if that's her comedy name or real name) but woke the show up a bit and put a new aspect on it ... still mostly about pregnant mums and women giving birth (of course) - still a history lesson and with a few twists like single pregnant girls and homes for them but nobody told them their baby would get taken away and given up for adoption almost immediately. I think it's easy to get drawn into that world - especially if you've had a baby in today's world and can imagine what it might have been like for your Granny. Sad bit was the single mums' home coz we all know that's true. |

The write up I saw described it as similar to All Creatures Great and Small if that's anything to go by. Guess I will keep an eye on TVO and PBS channels for information. |

I've been watching it on BBC iplayer. If it didn't lag it would actually be really interesting.
I agree though that maybe it's a woman's kind of program. Not enough blood and gore (of the right kind) for my OH!!! |
