Buying Clothes
 

Hi

I have tried to look in the archives, but can't find what I am looking for.

I have been in Alberta now since August and I feel it is time to start buying new clothes for myself. The trouble is I am finding it difficult to work out sizes. I have tried size converters that others have recommended, but just looking at shoes they say that a size 6 UK is CA/USA size 7, I don't even fit an 8 1/2, so I don;t trust their clothes sizes. I am a UK size 8 or a size 10 any ideas? I would be most grateful as I really hate shopping.

Yup, those were the ones telling me that my feet should be at least 2 sizes smaller over here.

Mmmmm, checked out the website given, and it's strangely enough I have been going down 2 dress sizes (from UK 10 to USA/Canadian 6) not one size down as quoted - have done this for years!

For shoes you go up in size. I was a 3.5 or 4 in the UK and am a 6 or 6.5 here.

See we are not idiots !!!

I did the internet size chart thing, it didnt work. I think it comes down to the crappy imported clothes made by workers earning 3 cents a garment.

I just try sizes between UK 10 and 14 and see what fits. Generally for trousers Im a 10 in the uk, I have a 6 or 8 or 10 here! For dresses I am a 10, I try on 6, 8 or 10 here !!:D

In the 8 years I lived in Canada I never worked out what size of clothes I should buy, I just tried things on to see what fitted. In some stores I was a size zero and in other a size 7:confused:. My advice is stop looking at the sizes on the labels they are generally meaningless.

Shoe-wise I am a 5 in the UK and I am buying a 7 or 8 here.

Clothes wise I was told to buy 2 sizes down but I agree with the other that it's much more random than that so I just hold up a hanger and make a guess. I always take at leat 2 sizes into the changing room with me.

After a a winter of Tim Horton's double doubles and muffins I would wait to the spring before buying clothes! You may need a larger size ! Winter seems to turn me into a semi vegitative state nearing hibernation maybe caused by the:p diet?

I was a UK size 6 in shoes - here I am a 8 or with my orthotic:curse: a 8.5.

As for clothes, it really depends on what shop but generally you will be a dress size smaller. So for example a UK size 12 would be a Canada size 10

If your shopping Eddie Bauer then we find most people need a size smaller than they usually buy in at least the Jeans/Pants.
