can anyone recommend a reeeally good isp in new brunswick an if they know what the down/up speeds are please.

oh is a xbox live modern warfare2 fan (actually more cod4) an as long as we get him a good connection with limited/no laggin he will be happy!

You probably only have the choice of phone or cable so that will be Bell and Rogers likely. Actual speeds will depend upon your location. As an example (and I'm not in NB but the logic will follow for there), I was getting a nominal 10 mbps on Rogers but when I switched to Bell (cos it was cheaper) that dropped to 4.5 mbps vs. an advertised upto 7. The issue being the distance from the local exchange/connection point. 4.5 mbps is proving sufficient for our needs. Unlike Rogers, Bell doesn't have a download cap either. (not that I've ever experienced problems with this._

Broadband? Whats that? There aint nothing like that where I live in Ontario, and I'm only 20 minutes out of town:(

You may have to specify where in NB I think. Should be OK in a big town, but out in the sticks service options are likely to be limited. He may have to spend his time in the real world instead!:eek:

I believe that several years ago the Provincial Government decided to make everywhere in N.B. "on line. It was a project well ahead of its time. I don't know if it ever happened though. It was at the time that N.B. became the Call Center Capital of the continent. This was because of the bilingual local workforce and the political decision to go after some sort of lasting industry to help with the unemployment in the area. The aim was to have a fiber optic network throughout the entire province.

Hows that working for them? Belleville was also a hot spot for call centers a few years ago, but many have downsized or gone and the services have gone offshore to the Philipines and Indian sub continent now:thumbdown:

Not sure about nowadays. There are numerous CCs that have shut down in this province though. At the time NB went for it they were years ahead of their time. So many clients moved their accounts to CC outfits in NB that other provinces started crying foul because their sites were closing. UPS was one of the biggie "defectors" at the time. The point is that the government of the day said there would be access for all NBers as a result of their fiber optic project. It seemed like a very forward thinking decision back then.

thanks for this - i had a look at rogers webpage, some of their packages look ok, we're payin 80 euros a month for 8mb but we only ever get around 4 - jus me wanting to be all informed about the lil things before we get over.
would be good if they got the fibre optic thing sorted tho - but i think that'll be the next thing anyway everywhere.

That will depend upon where you live. Outside of the major towns/cities your chances of accessing fibre broadband are probably slim.

bottoms an boobs! you got me on that one .... admittedly i saw nb an got excited, the residential areas stated at the mo are miles away;

Rothesay, Quispamsis, Grand Bay-Westfield, Bathurst, Miramichi, Moncton, Dieppe & Riverview

looks like i shall have to wait we're heading towards fredericton way!

I know people in Fredericton who have Fibre Optic, so it could be an option. They just haven't got very far out of town, like where we are (Douglas, about 15km away).

Out of town you might be able to get DSL, but Rogers cover most areas. Whilst I hate dealing with Rogers, I've never had any problems with their actual products. Our 10MB connection has never let us down.
