Default British TV abroad?

Hello

From a few of the threads re. quality of TV / missing particular shows, I was wondering if anyone has experience of BBCiplayer etc & whether it is successful in Canada.

From a quick google, there are 'ways' of subscribing to from abroad, although I think its default setting is to limit to particular internet domains & hence UK. (this is about the limit of my understanding of the technical bit & could be incorrectly described)

I'm not a big TV fan - tend to stick to dvds, a fair amount of which are US anyway, but the option might be nice.

Thanks
Bali

Yes, but after a couple of months they'll want you to begin subscribing. For about $25 monthly (not FilmOn)I get access to most UK channels live and BBC iPlayer and ITV player which I use almost every day. The monthly fee may seem excessive to some but at my stage of life it's a matter of want more than need.

Hi
We subscribe to an "identity cloaker" which costs about £30 for 3 months. We can get 4OD and ITV and iplayer.
4OD is really good cos they have full series of old programmes on the archives.

So do we. It's ok - it has it's annoyances when streaming, but for downloadable content it's great. It sure beats the local crap anyway.

Thanks everyone, sounds to be some good options for when / if I get there.

Love the 'identity cloaker' - very Spooks!

How come you get it for free...I'm puzzled
But would love to know.

Which one do you use?
I would be happy to pay that much to have access to BBc iplayer and the ITV one. I would simply cancel the cable package we have now, which I am sorely tempted to do anyway.

Filmon is fantastic. I have used it for 8 months and have only been asked to subscribe when watching BBC2 but trying again later it works again. I watch xfactor live etc. It makes me feel so much more connected with back home. To subscribe for the year would be $99.50

If it comes down to it I will pay it. I would happily pay my cable provider if it was a choice.

You need to keep an eye on how many GB's you are allowed to download each month via your internet provider when using such a service. I use Rogers and I am allowed 60GB before being charged which I would never ever use up each month.

I am looking forward to watching Christmas stuff and children in need etc.

I seem to remember there was a skip option on the sign up box at the beginning. I don't remember why but a couple of weeks later something suggested signing up (but still no charge involved) had some advantages, so I signed up...but I still click skip on the sign up box and get connected easily enough.

Just watched the England-Brazil game on ITV and expect to watch Doctor Who tomorrow.

You could always investigate a torrent site specializing in UK shows, for example, thebox.bz. I have used this, for example, to get the latest spooks, which I'll buy on DVD when it's released, but I want to watch it now.

Obviously there is a legality issue with torrents, and your ISP may throttle or prevent you from using P2P to download files.
