LANCASTER CHEESE - any good pairings in a sandwich? It's fairly low on my cheese preference scale, but a block has made it's way into the refrigerator.

Nice…not as good as Cheshire cheese IMO but Lancashire cheese is pretty good. Like Cheshire cheese it is crumbly and grills well, much better than Cheddar IMO.

I didn't think of grilling it. Will try ! From what I recall I slightly prefer Cheshire to Lancashire too, but neither are in the league of Cheddar, Edam or Gruyere !

Try toasting crumpets, top with cheese and pop back under the grill. Delish.

I do like a bit of crumpet Seriously. My go to is butter and marmalade, and sometimes grated cheddar on top of that. Did you mean grilled Cheshire/Lancashire crumpets or any grilled cheese?

Cheese on top of marmalade?

I use Cheddar cheese here, but if I was in the UK it would be Cheshire.

You have to try it ! So delicious. I said the same thing when a Brazilian friend told me that what they do. Although I wouldn't go too heavy on the marmalade.

Great. I usually just grate a light cheddar topping, I don't grill it. Forgot to add, crushed black pepper then takes it to the next level ! I think I better go stock up on crumpets tomorrow, I've made myself hungry.

I don't have that kind of restraint on crumpets or English muffins. Even from the freezer, I will get through them very quickly.

Cool Re: British Food recipes: Chick n Mush pie, Mushy peas

Dried green split peas available in most stores

1 cup peas to every 3 cups of water

Bring to the boil then simmer for approximately 90 mins

Add salt and pepper to taste

Taste great and much cheaper than buying imported cans if you`re on a budget too

If you're talking about mushy peas then you need dried marrowfat peas not just dried peas

Not at all, green split peas work just as well. I got the recipe from a British expat living in the states, you really wouldn't know the difference
