Brilliant Birthday Cake
Just wanted to recommend Goldilocks in the Vancouver area for birthday cakes. They were so helpful and their cake was fantastic.
As we had no access to cutlery and plates where we were going to share this cake (weird, I know, but bear with me), they suggested they make it from individual cupcakes then iced it over to look like one large, round cake. This worked brilliantly and when it came to the day, everyone could just break the cake apart into separate cupcakes and not get too messy! It saved all the cutting-it-up portion guessing and clearing away afterwards and it was obviously easy to get the size right - I just ordered the number of cupcakes for number of guests! Easy! 25 cupcakes made a sizeable cake and that was great for showing the design. They iced it with a design which I sent to them by e-mail and did a fantastic job. I chose Butterscotch from a large selection of flavours and they were really good. The icing was tasty, creamy and not too sweet or sickly either, which is important for an adult cake, I think. Anyway, they did a great job, both in customer service and the baking! Here is their site if you need it. http://www.goldilocks.ca/ |
Re: Brilliant Birthday Cake
Thank you!
The idea of splitting a cake into cupcakes is amazingly useful. Also, they have a ton of specialty food. Am checking to see what's available in my area. Oooooh look they ship to most metropolitan areas in Canada! |

Oooooh look they ship to most metropolitan areas in Canada! It was the best idea and I found it hard to choose between all the flavours that were offered. I bet we could have had a mixture if we had wanted. I was tempted by the Pistachio flavour. I have got a photo somewhere of it but I can't find it right now. I to post it on here when I find it. |

Their selection looked beautiful, though and on the strength of what we ate there I would try them if I wanted a super cake to eat at home for a special meal or a party venue. |

That was another one that was recommended to me and their deli food was certainly lovely (we took some with with us back to the hotel where we were staying for dinner) they just didn't come across as very helpful over e-mail. I was trying to get this sorted from the UK initially, you see.

They do a chocolate mouse and a white chocolate mouse with raspberries on top. Put some of that squirty cream on them and its delicious. |

I like your mice, but where have they put the raspberries, or shouldn't I ask?;) |

Good to know - Goldilocks is only a stone's throw from me!
Having said that, a colleague at work is a fabulous cake baker and decorator so I'd go to her for a cake in the first instance. |

Re: Brilliant Birthday Cake
You can get cakes now that have a picture of a photo that you take in. We did one for my nan's 70th birthday. There was a lot of cake left over. :(
