I'm not sure what anyone has done to merit this level of salt.

Anyway, I'm not bothering myself, but it's not that hard to understand why people want to vote. There's nothing wrong with living outside the UK and also having an opinion on what goes on there - especially in this case given that the brexit vote is going to have world wide repercussions.

However the impact is going to be most significant for the British tax payer who is resident in the UK. One could also argue that the whole of Europe should vote, as it will also significantly affect Europe as a whole, perhaps a global vote as it may have global implications!

Expats such as ourselves chose to leave the UK and live somewhere else. Some of had to apply for immigration to another country, other could just uproot and move to anywhere in the EU without any permit. We are most likley contributing to society where we reside in some way, not the UK. I know of folks who moved away from the UK for tax purposes alone, we each had our reason to move, but we all chose to leave Britain.

I personally have no issue with not being able to vote. Which is just as well as I cannot vote.

I could live with that - indeed I have done so for every other UK election since, although I do believe this vote is a bit different - if my exclusion from a UK vote gave me an automatic right to vote in Canada.

Me neither, but I understand why some people want to.

Not voting myself. Can't register online due to being Northern Irish and I have some misgivings about voting as I have no intention of returning.

If I were I'd vote to leave. At a very selfish level, it would be no risk as I have a backup EU passport regardless of what happens.

I am not looking at returning either but I'm still voting - I don't have my PR yet!

Not everyone has two European passports so the right to vote becomes even more important

I'm voting by proxy. Although I have no intentions to return to the UK any time soon, who knows what the future may hold. Or our kids may decide to live in the UK.

Sums my situation up exactly Rivington +1

I left the UK many years ago, and have been somewhat itinerant for a variety of reasons, I never get to vote anywhere. I did in France, but just for local elections. As a woman I value my right to vote, we didn't get the right by default

The UK will always be my 'home' even though I have not one iota of an intention to ever live there again...in any other country, I'll always be a foreigner.

I'm not concerned particularly, which is why I haven't registered. If you register to vote from a UK address even if you're abroad I can see that coming back to haunt you at some point when HMRC find out about it.

It does directly affect us though, because of the EU-Canada FTA. If the UK leaves, still won't be able to import certain good from the UK.

In a few months time, good chance the agreement will be ratified, so just at the perfect moment, the UK will leave and we still won't be able to import pork pies, etc.
