The Box

a1anm posted a link to something called The Box where you could download UK TV shows. Well, theoretically that is what you are suppose to be able to do.

So, I went to that site and got a membership. Then I was directed to something called Brian's BitTorrent FAQs. I got as far as What ports does BitTorrent Use - will it work with a firewall/NAT?

Well, knowing that I have a firewall and also a router, I read on. Honestly, it might as well be in Swahili for all I can understand!

I have absolutely no idea what its talking about. Do you really need to do all that stuff in order to watch the shows??

You do have to do quite a bit, I think there were some good tips a while back on the UKNova thread in the US forum.

I can't get in to the box, my daughter got an account back in Texas - then we moved here and I tried to set up an account, forgot about it, tried to use daughters account but she forgot her password, tried to re-register, only to realise my email address already was registered - and as they don't allow duel accounts, I can't get in at all :) Duh - I've no clue how to use IRC so it looks like that is that :D

Good luck with it, it's really worth it to go through all the port forwarding stuff etc as getting to watch a bit of UK tv every now and then is great.

That's too bad about The Box. I downloaded uTorrent and I can just double click on shows in The Box and it saves them in My downloads and I can play them in Windows Media. It took about half an hour to download a one hour episode of Location, Location, Location. I just leave it running.

I see there are loads of episodes of Foyle's War, which is one of my favourites.

If I go on like this I will have to get a DVD burner or else a bigger hard drive to hold all these shows!

If you find somewhere to download, try uTorrent. Its super easy. If I can do it - anybody can!

you could always set up a new email account and use that to register, or go here http://10minutemail.com/10MinuteMail/index.html and get a 10 minute email address just for the purpose of registration (also good to use when you are requied to give an email address to sign up on a site and you don't want to hand over your personal one)

the email address you use is unimportant as they don't seem to send out emails anyway.

According to my sister, someone told her that if you knew what you were doing, you could go into your BIOS and change the date on your system clock to one 10 years from now - or 20 years or whatever and then you could sign up to something for a seven day trial but the date would not happen for 10 years and so you could have the trial more or less for ever. However, neither of us understand all that - so I am happy for now with uTorrent and The Box.

And my Ratio is up to 1.137 now - without any uploading. But I might give that a try. Learn something new every day!

Liz, you'll have much more success in getting an answer if you post this in the lab section of the forum. There are many teckie guys there who would love to help you.

They are very friendly, dont worry!

I have actually got quite a bit of help here and I didn't even know a lab section existed. I will have to snoop around. I usually just go to the Canada forum all the time.
