Black Friday un-necessary purchases...
Anyone grabbed any bargains yet that they didn't know they needed?
So far (and it's only Thursday!) I've freed enough wallet moths to buy:
A laptop from Microsoftstore ($399 'from' $699 allegedly). This landed nicely as mine does regular BSODs due to overheating and is as noisy as a 747....
A cheap slimline desktop for an HTPC/camera server/home automation project ($200 from $400) - that probably was an actual bargain, as the same components would actually have cost me more and it includes a Windows 8.1 COA....
Sony's equivalent of a GoPro for $100 from the USA (+ duty and postage and exchange rate) - came to $CA 142 and I had actually been waiting for a good price on this one - they are $240+taxes here so that worked out well!
Wife's Christmas list all got purchased as well (thanks Amazon....)
My wallet needs to go and hide, as it's not even Friday yet

Re: Black Friday un-necessary purchases...
I didn't buy anything this year, or last. But I did in 2010 when I scored a cheap lap top from Best Buy for 199. Lasted 3 years and probably would still be working had I not dropped it once too many times and busted the screen. But I got good use from it.
My mom got me a GPS unit for Christmas while I was down there for Christmas, it was 60 dollars, marked down from 119, and looking at Canadian stores runs 119 on sale in Canada right now, so seems to have been a good deal.

I bought a monster bowling game for a colleague's little lad's birthday. I got $7.00 off.

Is tomorrow a good day to buy an Apple Mac laptop or are these not usually included in Black Friday??

I took a trip to the local knocking shop and got a dollar off a hand shandy.

just spotted a rather tasty looking Simoniz gas pressure washer reduced from $600 to $300. I think I'll go for it.

The sales in Canada are usually poor and not true black Friday sales so don't expect much north of the border.

Refurbished Mac Computers - Refurbished Notebooks & Desktop Computers - Apple Store (Canada)
They replace the case and keyboard on all refurbs, so they look brand new anyway and cost typically 15-25% less, plus you get the warranty.
Just before Christmas isn't usually the best time selection-wise or price-wise.

If you don't want to go to the US then i'd say check out non-Apple stores like Best Buy, future shop, etc but I agree with Jsmth you may have to go across the border for the best deals.

Re: Black Friday un-necessary purchases...
But with a weak Canadian dollar there is also not much savings these days in the US either...

You are much better off buying a Refurb from the Apple store.

Thanks I'll check it out
Yeah I was thinking if heading Seattle and getting it there. Believe it for not buying a mac in Canada is still cheaper then the UK even with all the tax

Re: Black Friday un-necessary purchases...
I purchased a down coat and a pair of down filled ski pants.
I have no intention of skiing but if last winter was anything to go by I need warmer clothes for my commute.
I got 40% off both items and seeing as I was planning to get them anyways, I'm happy with that.
Ben and I may or may not have purchased a large tub of mixed lego bricks!
