Black Friday in Canada?

Granted, the deals are not going to be anywhere near those found down south...but is anyone really getting any great deals here?

Erm, isn't Black Friday in America only?

you're clearly not a shopper. consumerism knows no bounds.

a number of large (mainly american) retailers have released black friday sales announcements in canada too.

I wonder if the hype will have any impact on sales for Canada's busiest day - 23rd December?

There is 60% off at Gap online and in stores, ends Saturday. Which is actually a bugger as I just bought a whole of stuff in there last weekend :frown:

We attended the pre-Black Friday discount madness in Buffalo NY last weekend and obtained a low water consumption toilet for $84. Maybe we'll go back this week for the bathtub.

One of the advantages is not being stuck waiting to cross the border back into Canada and having to deal with those nasty border dudes or whatever other endearing names you have for us LOL.

You could have got the same thing at Lowes last week, they even had a BOGOF going at the time.

With your drive, petrol and time on the road, hardly a saving

A free toilet isn't much of an incentive.

That seems a lot for a bucket.

Now, a BOGOF on buckets would be of great interest to those of us with no roof.

The saving on a van load of stuff is, of course, fantastic. Just the saving on a bag of dog food pays for the petrol.

I will be super busy at work today (again, yesterday was nightmareish with not enough people on) Eddie Bauer for the first time is doing a Black Friday thing in Canada with 40% off everything, speaking of which I am 15 minutes behind schedule already so I best disappear:eek:

Dont GAP have a price match guarantee? We brought something in Toys-r-us yesterday and were actually told to buy it yesterday (as they had stock) and then bring the receipt in this morning to get the $60 back as its $60 cheaper today.

I guess it depends on what time you go to work or get up. This morning was definitely dark so it could be considered as Black Friday at that moment in time but yes it is traditionally a US of A sort of thing but the bandwagon jumpers are onboard ( bit like Man City fans) so we are seeing it here more.

You aren't complaining about work are you now? :D

It seems like it is coming our way sadly. Our store (teen clothing type retailer) has been gearing up for it for a little while. Although noone in the mall quite knows what to expect crowd-wise given that the whole Black Friday in Canada thing seems relatively new and we're less than an hour from the border

I personally love a bargain but really couldn't be bothered to fight hundreds of other punters for it...

Re: Black Friday in Canada?

I went into WalMart this morning around 9am - I picked up a KitchenAid Mixer for $188 and was pretty happy about it. The $200 32" LCD TV's were long gone - apparently there was a line-up at 7am when the doors opened and the TV's were gone by 8am. I don't have that kind of dedication, and don't really need another TV.

I didn't see too many other really great deals - though I think there was a wireless printer (Canon) for about $40 - I paid about $100 for a similar one about a year ago.

Wow. Paying less for the same thing instead of more than is necessary seems to be catching on. ;)

Actually dell.ca had some pretty good deals I just went for the xps 8300 - pentium i5 3ghz, 8gb ram, 1gb radeon graphics, 24" LED screen and so on all for $799.

Being a petty git I checked the american site and it was $1168, so feel pretty vindicated!

Chinnook Centre in Calgary was pretty mental last night, just about every store, both US and Canadian, had a sale on. Hadn't seen that many people since a regular Saturday afternoon at the Trafford Centre,

Felt quite claustrophobic and didn't realise there are actually so many people living here!

I'm hoping things have calmed down a bit, I'm being dropped of at Cross Iron while OH goes to the scrap yard this afternoon, not what I had in mind after already spending 40+ hours in a mall this week:(

Might see you there Piff Poff....agreed to take teenage daughter to Cross Iron to buy a dress for her school dance. Know I am in for an afternoon of fun NOT.;)

Heard quite a few English voices while I was there. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, managed to get a couple of Christmas pressies and a lovely pair of boots for me:thumbsup:

Violence, pepper spray mars Black Friday shopping

A shopper pepper-sprayed other bargain hunters and robbers shot at customers to steal their Black Friday purchases, marring the start of the U.S. holiday shopping season, according to authorities......
Didn't something similar happen at a Walmart a couple of years back?

To be honest I didn't think about it til I read the post. I know some stores do it, will have to investigate.

14 days for Eddie Bauer, although sometimes there is a 'not to be used on prior purchases' with the coupons, but then all you have to do is grumble.
