I didnt realise that the web even existed in 1971 when that was clearly written:rolleyes:

Makes me despair for my daughters that such sexist nonsense is still churned out.

You have been in Canada too long.

Guys will always state such things about girls, girls will always state such things about guys. I am confident that, perish the thought, you girls may one day say such things about members of the opposite sex, or other girls if the fancy takes them. I say this as a father of 2 girls myself.;)

So you dont find the lumping together of women from particular cities a teeny bit sexist then? Just seemed crass to me.

No, Iain, it's not sexist.

Sexist means that you believe that someone's capabilities are lessened because of their gender.

That article was (gasp!) a humourous appreciation of women. It is, I believe, still allowed to notice the relative attractiveness of women, or should we all just be paired off by numbers?

Nah, it's just objectification.

Well, sexism is just the application of said objectification.

I can't believe I have just typed the word 'objectification'...

It's clearly bunkum. Buenos Airies should have been #1 not #10.;)

I disagree, sexism operates independently of objectification, one (and by one I mean men) can discriminate without considering the physical nature of the person (and by person I mean woman) against whom the discrimination is practised. Canadian employers, for example, pay less to women without regard for whether they are deemed "douche bags" or "cutie pies" (the only two expressions I've heard potential employers use to categorise females). Dividing the female population into such categories is objectification, paying them less regardless of configuration is sexism.

Is it sexist to objectify the self-objectified

Would you feel despair if it was a top ten of "sexiest firemen" around the world? I'll bet your daughters wouldn't, once they're at an appropriate age.

See if for what it is. A crappy bit of "journalism" targeted to mostly male readers. Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe this will make you feel better ;)

I know people who do. Does that help?
