Our local place used to do sweet and sour chicken (the ones in that funny kind of batter) and chips. The ultimate in asian fusion food.

Chinese chips and curry sauce was the Mandarin House's signature dish.

You can get chip shop curry sauce and chicken in japanese restaurants - they just call it something posh (katsu curry I think). It's very tasty - I had it for lunch yesterday.

The magnitude of nostalgia this statement evokes in me is only exceeded by the desire to seek synonyms for "magnitude" and "nostalgia" to favourably compare refried chips Chinese-style, served in a Chinese curry sauce, to any other modern or contemporary dish.

...but to really appreciate this dish it needs to be served in a polystyrene tray from a van in a a damp car park after a skin full.

Steering the thread off course... I was pulled a aside at work once as new copper and it was pointed out to me that the word Chinkie was offensive when I had suggested grabbing one for lunch. Anyone else experienced this or have I been out of the UK too long?
