I agree its part of the issue as well. Kids certainly take away freedom one has.

Guess is boils down to perspectives and where one is in life. For us its simple finances, adding a kid would be near impossible fund. Diapers alone would be a burden to buy. We have little disposable income to spend on such items.

Now I cant say we will never have a kid as things happen, but we do all we can to prevent it.

You may have a point there. But then again there are a lot of couples actively deciding not to have kids nowadays and I don't think it's necessarily down to finances. Other factors like the freedoms that being kid free allows - travel, careers, hobbies etc etc. Apparently it's on an upward trend - the rise of the well educated, financially independent 30 something couples who choose not to have kids is apparently upon us!

While a stupid movie for the most part, it could happen on a smaller scale.

It is a bit stupid, but I like the opening premise, that the trailer trash outbreed the professionals, leading to the Idiocracy! Probably not that well grounded in science though.

Gosh I hope not. I'm planning to upload my consciousness to the Borg.

This is medical related. So i''ll post here instead. Would you sell everything you had to get a surgery in the US if you couldn't get approved in Canada for it?

B.C. man sells everything to pay for brain surgery in U.S. after being denied in Canada - Health - CBC News

Didn't China just lift their 1 child policy up to 2?

It has been 2 in some cities for some time, but yes, the limit has been raised to 2 more widely now.

Ah yes I remember learning about the child policy from a Chinese guy when we were backpacking in Beijing. Apparently if your first born is a girl you can have another one because 2 girls is equivalent to 1 boy in farming terms in more rural areas of China

The world population is still growing rapidly. This surely can't continue ad infinitum.

Not as rapidly as you might think, and the growth rate is collapsing in those countries which have experienced the most rapid growth over the past 50 or so years. For example the average famy size in Pakistan has gone from 10 to 4 in just a generation, and continues to decline.

The latest data I have seen suggests that even barring plague or famine, the global population will max out at around 9Bn in around 2050.
