We wanted to go electric when we were car shopping but there is literally nothing available for the size we need for our household. Closest thing was a Toyota Highlander Hybrid but A) that still consumes gas and B) it was the most painfully boring car to drive, so we opted for a Subaru Ascent. I'm hoping when my lease is up at the end of 2024 we can return it and there will be a good size somewhat affordable fully electric SUV available because I am done with these gas prices.
Sounds like you need a Tesla Model X Plaid 0-100km/h in 2.6 seconds, not bad for a 7 seater SUV

Two problems - one the price is astronomical ($125k), two can't get in or out the car in the garage because of the "falcon wing" doors!

Pfffft minor details. It will be a while before we start seeing pure electric vehicles rather than hybrids on the roads in Canada.
Anybody know how these full electric vehicles perform in minus 30C temps if left unplugged on an outdoor parking lot in Winnipeg/Regina for 9 hours a day?
Lots of money to be spent by condo boards to have outdoor/indoor parking spots to be converted to accept recharging plug ins.

Hmm maybe I was too quick to judge, that might be ok. Still doesn't solve the cost issue, maybe getting a used one I guess.

Neat looking car, but at the price I will have to pass, maybe one day a decent electric car will be available for under 20,000.

Not Intelcom and in the US, but I doubt it's much if any different in Canada based on the Intelcom reviews and the ex-Amazon drivers I used to work with, unrealistic expectations, not drinking water to avoid needing to use the bathroom, peeing into bottles, doesn't sound like a healthy work environment.

I will say based on the video, someone like me with IBS would not last very long in that job.

Moving on up, moving on up to the gas price in the skyyyyyy.

https://vancouversun.com/news/local-...-c-experts-say

Gas in Vancouver hit an all time high on Canada Day hitting 173.9 for the first time, previous high price was back in April 2019 when it hit 172.9.

Current price is 30 cents higher than April 2021 and 85 cents higher than April 2020.

I guess the upside is, a Mazda 2 only costs $60 to fill at these prices, but only make it about 300km on a tank in stop and go traffic.

Downside is it will make door dash more or less not worth doing, $6-$8 delivery payment to go 10-20km at these price may end up losing money in the end.

Mazda 2 is a great little car. My mother had one and it was a blast.

We have liked it. We bought it used at 40,000km in 2013 (2012 model year) and it's been good, it's getting close to 10 years old now, but it doesn't look like is an almost 10 year old, and certainly runs better than 10 year old cars of the 1990's did.

We will keep it until it stops running or needs a major repair that isn't worth the cost of fixing.

The biggest issue so far was a steering column problem, but turned out it was a recall issue from 2015 but we were not contacted (odd since I did register the car with Mazda as the dealer suggested in the event of a recall.) and Mazda dealer tried to weasel out of it saying it was no longer recalled, but after some escalation with Mazda Canada, it was fixed without charge in the end. So 1 point for Mazda Canada but 0 for that dealer.

Apparently Mercedes Benz is coming out with a 7 seater electric car in 2023, estimated around $57K (USD), called the Mercedes-Benz EQB

Looks quite nice, I'd consider this over a Model X personally. Still expensive but at least getting closer to attainable, especially after the rebates.

When there is a good, smallish, electric vehicle that sells new for $20k-$22k range they will finally be within reach, because generally a couple year old $20k new car sells in a range we could achieve.

Although I saw a Nissan Leaf 2017 for $17,000 which I guess isn't too bad, but seems the battery may only last about 10 years?

I got the 10 year from a couple websites about the leaf, well they say may last up to 10 years.

Kind of thinking for me, going back to a gas powered scooter is the best option, cuts insurance, cuts gas but no fussing with electric and batteries.
