bbc iplayer downloads

Seem to be a mystery to my laptop

We used to have iplayrr dedktop which never worked for downloads, a pronlem with Adobe Air i think. I have uninstalled iPlayer Desktop and installed iPlayer Download and now I can get as far as "start download", but then nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

It's a while since I've used the BBC iplayer on the computer (as the streaming on the Xbox has been so good there's been no need) but there used to be regular problems with Adobe Air. As well as re installing the iplayer you may need to reinstall Adobe Air. Certain updates of Adobe Air seem to cause problems.

I don't think the new system uses Adobe Air. I wanted some doenloads as streaming is slow when everyone else logs on to Bell. Also for when the servers go down .

Thanks for answering though.

I need subtitles and other sources often don't have them.

Check your firewall and permissions.

Ah...sorry...forgot that.

The foreign movies and series like Borgen & Spiral come with subtitles on the other sources and there's quite a bit on youtube with them too. Not always recent stuff of course.

I have exactly same issue. I tried removing and re installing the "new" downloader but when it says download program it sits on zero % forever. I have never successfully downloaded any programs with the new downloader which BBC says is better and simpler than the old one. Apparently there were numerous issues with adobe air so that isn't used with the new one.
I am using laptop with Google Chrome, i don't get any warnings or pop ups when i click on "download" Its very frustrating and i have tried Googling the problem and looking on the BBC's help page but nothing comes up that's similar.

I can stream the programs instead but it seems that the i player is often freezing and then stops altogether telling me i have insufficient bandwidth yet the test reveals i have more than enough and i never get same issues with Channel 4 or ITV

BBC does seem to be a bit different. I sometimes get that insufficient bandwidth message listening to radio. It's nonsense of course but it happens.

It used to happen after about half an hour of The Fall episodes. No big deal, just a refresh and carry on. Other things - match of the day, for example - freeze for about two seconds every half minute. Fortunately there are other, better, streams for such things.

But I watch England football matches on ITV when they're not on TV here with no problem at all and I've been watching C4's The Gravy Train without any issues too.

We get the same when streaming, which is anotger reason for downloading. Channel 4 isn't smooth and the captions, sound, and video are often out of sync.

We often use the lower bandwidth setting which is ok as we don't have a HD telly

Did you ever manage to sort this out? Been having the same issue for ages now.

Oh.. Glad it's not just be having the download issue!

I much preferred the desktop player as you could series link with it and it would download the episodes when available. With the new download app you have to actually remember what you wanted to watch and download individually.
