BBC iPlayer

Has anyone else seen the reliability nosedive since they reformatted it? Most things I try and watch only result in the 'try again' button appearing. Repeatedly.

Re: BBC iPlayer

Which service do you use to watch it?

I've not been able to stream any HD programmes to the TV (LG Smart TV) in the last week or so.

SD works, but HD just won't.

We use UnoTelly.

Mediahint. Maybe I should try another one then?

Yep, we had problems. I deleted cookies and history this evening and it's been ok so far.

Re: BBC iPlayer

I haven't watched BBC in a while but ITV has been going a treat.

But due to this thread I tried BBC and repeatedly got the 'try again' message.

Just did some research and some have suggested deleting cookies, removing-reinstalling etc.

I found where someone said disabling and enabling did the trick for them (it wasn't clear if they meant for each use) without mucking about with cookies.

I disabled and couldn't get ITV (not surprising but I just wanted to check I wasn't getting it for some other reason) and enabled and got ITV back.

So far so good.

I then tried BBC and got that too.:)

So a simple disable/enable in add-on manager might be enough.

Deleting cookies seems a lot dimple than enable/disable, whatever that is!:sneaky:

Not much in it but one might mean having to re-enter a bunch of saved passwords and user names on a dozen sites while the other doesn't. :)

Free trial?

It's just a normal add-on with Firefox.

Ah, you need to tick the right boxes before you delete. So what's this enable thing? BBChas just hiccuped again so maybe the cookies weren't the problem

Dashie May 19th 2014 12:26 pm

Re: BBC iPlayer

Yep, did that. Installed Hola and it worked first time. Only time will tell though... I remember suddenly hitting a wall with stealthy too. I wonder if ITV and 4 will work for me now. Last time I tried, ITV accused me of having an ad blocker that I couldn't find for love nor money... Thanks for your help!

Click Tools, then add-ons.

Click Extensions to display the list of add-ons you have.

Scroll down to MediaHint and click the disable box. Then click to re-enable.

That's what I did and BBC started working again. Seems not to have worked for Dashie.

I can't download and now the streaming problem is back. Netflix is on the fritz too so I am off to bed with Mark Twain instead.

We have used FilmOn for a few years now. Always works well. Sometimes you can watch for free, but only ITV .. 1,2 and 3.... We do pay a yearly sub, which runs out next week...

I used to use that and pay the subscription and never had issues with it. Small price to pay.

The Mediahint trial thing didn't count at all. I never replied to their emails at all and watched BBC1 last night no probs at all.

Weird

Re: BBC iPlayer

The iPad version works properly for me for the first time in a long while. Whatever they've changed, I'm happy with it.

The UK iPlayer app is only available in the UK store. If you're seeing the "global" version, you're probably signed in to the Canadian store. Sign out, then back in using your UK iTunes account.

My iPad just tried to autocorrect "UK" to "Ukip". I'm not amused.

I just tried iPlayer but got the not working try again message repeatedly.

Watching live was no problem. So I thought I'd try downloading the catch up show (From there to here) that wouldn't play, so I downloaded the iplayer thingy but the show doesn't seem to download. It just sat there with a pause option but didn't do anything.

However, I went back to the usual catch up bit to see if it was still not working try again and I refreshed the page.

I noticed there was a Watch in HD option rather than just clicking the usual 'play' bit. I clicked that and it played.

Re: BBC iPlayer

I remove adobe flash and reinstalled. I noticed that there had been an update on that around the time the problem started. It's been ok since but that just might be a coincidence.

Incidentally, on the BBC page there is SD, HD and AD. I know the first two but what's AD?

Googling gets ADHD results.

Mind you, it was worth it for this gem

Its definitely been playing up. I suspect the BBC gnomes have programmed in some code to recognize IP masking software. Its going to bugger WC. :(

Look for More ways to customise and Browse all add-ons in your "get add-ons" page.

I found both Hola and Mediahint in there using the search.

There's a green box with First time with Add-ons? at the top and the customise/browse bit is at the bottom.

Use the search on that page. The previous search seems to search what add-ons you have rather than those available.

There's something else there - under Games - called ProxMate that might do the same thing.
