Default BBC Canada advertisements

Having just subscribed to this channel (so we can get regular fixes of Top Gear, Spooks, Graham Norton and such like) do they think that us Brit Expats all have either an incontinence problem or an...erm...male performance problem or something?

Almost every advert lately has been for Tena pads (now available for both women and men apparently) and for Cialis (which I believe is along the same lines of Viagra).

I am just puzzled because I haven't seen these products advertised on any of the other more mainstream channels that we watch, so I was just a bit curious about whether this is targeted product placement specifically for Brits!

I've seen the Tena ad too.....didn't know they did them for men, but I suppose, why not!

Wonder if they'll start advertising dentists on BBC Canada next as there is always the ongoing joke of us Brits having bad teeth!

I've seen some ads on some of the US channels we watch.

I noticed last week that the British 'Multigrain Cheerios' ad they have shown here in Canada for the past couple of years has now been dubbed American "THE BOX SAYS SHUT UP STEVE"

I've seen loads of these ads. Can't say I've noticed if they were just the US channels though.

I've read about that one...apparently the US channels have the dubbed version but the English one is still on the Canadian channels.

The UK ad is the same as we get in Canada...except right at the end we get a close up of the Canadian packet.
The one shown in the US has American voices dubbed. The dialogue is the same.

According to the Canwest info I could find (BBC Canada is owned by them.) average weekly reach for viewers looks like this. (pdf)

25 to 54 year olds make up the bulk of their viewers.

So Tena and Cialis fit right in with the market the advertisers are trying to reach, so you get to see more of them.

History Television has alot of Tena commercials and they even sponsor some of the programs, but the average age of the viewer is probably older as well..

Multigrain Cheerios US commercial.

The Canadian version was still in British accent the last time I saw it a few days ago.

That's sooo wrong. It's not even dubbed in synch and it's the same language

When the channel was 1st available they had more edgey programming (League of Gentlemen) and more comedy (Office, Alan Partridge, Royle Family, Coupling etc) and now it is full of 'lifestyle' programming and manufactured home reno shows.

In my mind, they could get rid of Bargain Hunt, those scottish drama queens, escape to the shires, and it would improve the channel.
