BBC article about fake accounts in web forums

Forums? Fora?

Anyway, the article is about how companies are paying people to join in on forums to boost apparent interest.

This strategy is not without its pitfalls though...

"However, fakes can be spotted by analysing their patterns of activity and the words they use, say the researchers.

Fakes are more likely to start new comment threads, make inane comments rather than add to a debate, and repeat former comments with minor changes, the study suggests
."

Hmmmm.... <strokes chin and ponders>

And I wish to state for the record that I know for a fact that at least 8 posters on here are real people, in, like real life.

After that, well, who knows. I can't and won't vouch for anyone else. I reckon some are not human though. :p

I know where this is going but I can't imagine for a second that even the insignificant Canadian Army would be incompetent enough to employ UltraRunner to boost apparent interest.

I dunno, does that friendly fire thing still happen??? If you can inadvertantly kill your own comrades then Ultrarunner may have single handedly boosted this years intake by 100%

Ahhhh, is that why someone keeps sending me money :D

Seriously though, apart from the odd troll every now and then, I think all the poor and useless comments on here come from the heart rather than the budget of some PR firm

Maybe he's a bot that's now out of control and can't be shut down. Sort of like an incompetent Canadian version of skynet.

This is a very nasty and rather spiteful post if it was meant to have a dig at someone looking for work just to try and score points.
