As we're stuck here for now I'm starting to practise dragging my knuckles on the floor LOL

Well, not that difficult. On the other hand it does suggest an interesting game.

Let's see who can write a paragraph or two in everyday "plain" English of a length of, say, one hundred words, without using any words which have Latin roots.

Quoting Beowulf or Joe Effing Kinnear is offside.

Top prize to be determined later.

The charabanc clattered to a halt on the cobblestones. She stepped down, clad as always in pleather and my pulse sped as I fondly recalled many such moments in the past. I knew that within minutes I would find my hand tightening on a paddle. Canoeing is a feature of life here in rural Ontario, we use the birchbark creations not only as a metaphor for the flavour of local beverages but as a means of transport. A bull moose field dressed by a visiting dignitary and balanced on a frame across two such craft is truly a sight to behold. One cannot write in a canoe though, computers are too prone to flooding and a physical dictionary with which to research derivation makes the vessel unstable.

not entirely sure that 'metaphor' may not have a Latin origin.

Derivation comes from the Latin verb "derivare"

Excellent. Here's mine:

The anger of the king was raised by his psychosis, brought on by the knife in his leg and the bad hen’s egg he had received from the yokels. The law said he should get supper and money, but no action was taken by the yeomen. His right was to receive an ox , a cow and a pig to put into the meadow grass by the trees. He called his Knights to him and spoke to them of physics and metaphor. He asked them to go to the hamlets to take his lawful bounty. But Langlauf the Bad, the dabbler in thaumatology, forbade this act.

Both perfectly plain English.

Do you want to try for no Greek either?
