Automatic Car Starter & Garage Door Opener - Help!
I have 2 questions which I want to ask.....
1.) Has anybody fitted one of those automatic starter thingies for their vehicle and if so, is it something straight forward and easy to do?? My car is an auto, as I notice that the pricing is different for stick. 2.) On the subject of cars, well almost, I tried to fix my automatic garage door opener at the weekend but to no avail. :( After we moved into our "First Canadian home", I noticed the garage door opener and was like 'Yes, this is what its all about', silly I know, but its the small things that count for me, plus the novelty factor ;). Well, the wire on the pulley chain had jumped off its pulley at the wall end and had jammed itself tight between the said pulley and the bolt that holds it on. After looking at it every time I enter the garage for nearly a year now and cursing the fact that it doesn't work and everybody else has one and I dont :curse:, (small things again) I decided to remove it at the weekend and tinker. I managed to free the wire and got the motor running, with the pulley seemingly working fine, but then I realised I am missing the piece which connects the garage door to the pulley chain. (After looking in Home Depot and Crappy Tire for visual reference) it looks like a 'L' shaped piece, but I dont know if it is hinged and it swivels or if it is one solid piece? Does anybody have any advice or where I can maybe source the missing pieces? otherwise its a few hundred bucks  to replace the system, which other than this one assembly it seems to works fine. Thanks for your help. Matt |
Re: Automatic Car Starter & Garage Door Opener - Help!
Auto is easier...it needs to know its not in gear before starting. I have one, but I figured there was no point doing it myself if they will sell it and install it for $200. From what I've heard its not a very hard thing to DIY if you are a little competent at these things, but for the sake of $50 I've better things to do with my time.
I replaced most of my GD opener a little while back...but not the rails and pullies. If you can post a picture of the bit, I might have it in my basement. Failing that Sears have fantastic parts coverage for all their products, so try sears parts and service if you can figure out what it is you need. If its the bit I think it is I think its solid...the pivot is elsewhere I think. You might even be able to mash something together from angle iron if need be. |
