Ashes 2017/8
So are we all sitting comfortably, ready for the den of politeness and etiquette that is the Gabba?
I see Eng have plumped for Jake 'not-sprained-ankle' Ball ahead of Overton. Bring it on! |

Named after Oz won a test at the Oval in 1882 and The Times wittily proclaimed the 'death of English cricket' The stumps were cremated & 'the ashes' were taken back to Oz. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ashes We currently hold them. Prob not that exciting to non cricket fan, although many a non fan was turned into one through following Ashes (1981, 2005 especially) |

Re: Ashes 2017/8
I hope i am wrong but i think Cook may be the weak link in the batting line up, we need stability at the top of the order and having to bring in a new opener if he has a few failures will upset the whole balance of the team.

Anyone using Willow TV to watch?

Re: Ashes 2017/8
Unforced error and I don't mean the too much Indian takeaway I ate. :(
|
Re: Ashes 2017/8
I think this low run rate will come back to bite us. :(
|
Re: Ashes 2017/8
Would rather the low run rate than getting rolled over. Didn't sound like there was much pace in the pitch either.
Shame, as I would have loved to have Lyons words stuffed back his throat, although there is still time to do so. A bit more pace might suit YJB's style of batting if it picks up day 2 |

I'm disapointed, I expected, at the very least, a torrent of righteous indignation that anyone would admit to not knowing what the Ashes are. Instead I get a polite explanation, not like this site at all.

Re: Ashes 2017/8
The BT coverage was abysmal. Little to no technical analysis plus they have annoying Australians on there with their awful accents. They sound like a dolphin being run over.

Re: Ashes 2017/8
Pizza tonight I think. Given the length of the match, I think I can manage two large ones.

Anyone got a decent web link?

Re: Ashes 2017/8
We're doing our best to lose this test against very mediocre opposition. :(
Cook's spent force. |

Re: Ashes 2017/8
Its funny how the aussi bowlers are getting so much out of the pitch when the England bowlers struggled so much.

Day one of the 3rd test at the WACA. Cook already caught lbw. :(

Re: Ashes 2017/8
just catching up on yesterday's reports. Not a bad first day, good to see Dawid Malan securing his maiden Test century, and Johnny Bairstow is having a reasonable knock as well. Looking at the online replays of Stoneman's dismissal it seems a pretty marginal decision for Aleem Dar to have overturned - whatever happened to "umpire's call" when the video evidence is not conclusive? Still, that's a good start from England in the face of some properly aggressive pace bowling...

YJB at 6 *cough* Where he should have been from the start. Heard that Strauss has gone back to UK, to be with his missus, who has cancer. :( Puts a game of cricket into perspective and all the best to the Strauss family. |

Shame we handed over the Ashes so tamely. Changes for Boxing Day? Overton, Broad maybe, cook probably not . Vince second innings i imagine, have given him the last 2 tests. Apparantly 20 mins after the last wicket the rain came back and didnt stop. |

Guardian: Stuart Broad backs Alastair Cook to ram home England’s advantage at MCG
 Aus all out for 327, we're 192-2, 135 runs behind. Australia only had 135 at 2 and 160 for 3. But then 260-4 and added 54 on the next two wickets to 314 for 6 and collapsed further. It's been a long time since I paid much attention to cricket but let's get past 300 and still have most wickets left before thinking we're in a good position. |
Re: Ashes 2017/8
307-6 it didn't look so good, but 491-9 is promising.

Re: Ashes 2017/8
It was quite a special day yesterday. So glad Cookie did so well. A very classy innings. Let’s hope our bowlers rise to the challenge.

And Broady too, for that matter. Now add some cheeky last wicket runs, then get amongst them. |
