Apartment to rent for 2 weeks in NW Calgary

Hi

We are newbies on this site. Myself, wife and two lads 14 and 11, have our PR visas (got them Nov ) and are coming out to Calgary for the first two weeks of June to look at housing and maybe look at a few schools. We have decided that we want to live in either Cochrane, or the NW district of Calgary, and wondered if anyone knew of any self catering apartments for rent during those two weeks (28/05/2010 to 11/06/2010) in the areas mentioned above that we could rent at a reasonable rate. ANY info would be greatly appreciated. I Would also love to hear any opinions that anyone has that may already have moved to these areas. Many Thanks. :fingerscrossed:

First thing I would say is thats a damn Large area, subsequently there are a lot of different types of area. It may be a good idea to narrow it down by telling us what the most important things are. Transport? A Lake? Shopping? Different styles of housing? Things for the kids? etc etc etc

You're not going to have much luck with a rental for just two weeks. You may be best to try a suite hotel or motel and rent a car to check out different areas.

Hi again.

Thanks to all of you that have replied, we really appreciate it. I will look into some of the links that you have posted, and will let you know how we get on with finding accomodation. As for the area we are looking at (Cochrane or NW area of Calgary) I was sort of hoping that someone would be able to give us an idea of what the 'nice' areas / neigherhoods are :fingerscrossed:. We are ideally looking for a spacious home but not too far out in the sticks. Close to schools and shops would be nice, and it would be great if there were local activities for the kids. The areas surrounding Nose Hill park sound good (as well as Cochrane which we loved on our last visit), but again, it would be lovely to have some feedback from people who have actually already 'made the move'. All info that you give us, trust me, we really, really do appreciate. It is so nice that people take time out of their days to post information to help others out. How rare is that nowadays ?

Mutley,

It sounds to me (and I will be corrected by 'older' posters) as if the following COULD be of interest.

Edgemont, Dalhousie, Varsity and Cochrane. I would have said add Tuscany, Citadel, Arbour Lake, Scenic Acres and Royal Oak (BUT the proximity to schools for your lads is NOT that wonderful).

Dalhousie and Varsity are the older more established (along with parts of cochrane).

Tuscany, Arbour Lake and Scenic Acres MAINLY single family cookie cutter homes.

Arbour Lake has (obviously) a lake.

Hope some of that helps.

Many thanks Butch, we have looked into your suggestions of Edgemont, Dalhousie, Varsity and Cochrane, and seem very impressed with these areas. Any help in finding accomodation in these areas from 28/05/10 to 11/06/10 (inclusive) would be greatly appreciated, and would give us the opportunity to 'live' like real Canadians :D for those two weeks.
