Re: Another NI contribution question
I can confirm I am paying Class 2. I didn't find the information terribly clear so I ticked both Class 2 and 3 on the original form. They wrote back to me, asked for information about employment (together with proof). Few weeks later I got confirmation that application for Class 2 had been accepted.

They had a Spending Review today, havent seen it all yet, but would impact retirement age and possible pension.

Re: Another NI contribution question
Just received a letter from HM advising that for the year 2008-2009 I can make up the missing NI contributions with just over £400 cheque.
I currently have 26 years contributions in.
Is it worth me doing so as I doubt there will be much of a basic state pension when I get there ? If they scrapped it would they only honour people who have full contributions ( I know....unanswerable )
If I don't does it mean I would get 26/30th of the full basic state pension anyway ?
Noting the amount to make up one year and assuming similar amounts for the other remaining 3 years, that would be about £1700 to get the full 30 years.....again is it worth it ?
Thoughts ?

Re: Novo's earlier comment I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that time in FTE counts from 18!

"Instead of basing pensions on means testing, the new system would be based on residency, with British citizens or people who have been living in the country for a certain number of years qualifying."
from today's Grauniad. But it's a bit ambiguous, does it mean all British Citizens AND some other people who live in the UK, or British citizens who live in the UK and some others who do too?

This isn't clear either. Basically I think its because it hasn't been announced yet and its still speculation. whether its speculation based on fact remains to be seen.
