Another Canniversary ... and such a sad day

Tomorrow is our third Canniversary. I wouldn't have remembered at all if we hadn't had a card from a friend congratulating us.

We've just got back from taking our dear Kezzie to the vets

shit the house feels so empty. She's usually here right by my feet when I'm talking to you lot.

So sorry to hear that:(

As trite as it sounds she's probably in a better place.

Oh shit, I feel so sorry for you all.

Been there done that, it was the hardest thing I have ever done.

Try to have a happy day tomorrow no matter how hard it is.

Re: Another Canniversary ... and such a sad day

Thank you so much everybody, for your kind thoughts and messages.

I suppose it was mean of me to put both things in one post, as you kind people didn't really know how to respond! Sorry :o

Kes had a lovely long life and was very much loved. My dad (and others) have assured us that it's the last loving thing you can do for your pet, but it sure as hell didn't feel like it at the time.

Unfortunately her old veins and circulation were poor, and the first and second attempts were unsuccessful, so the whole thing became more and more prolonged and distressing for all of us (including the staff).

Finally she is at peace and no more pain, and today (gee, once I can gather my strength) I plan to go though all the old photos I can find and make a lovely montage of her life. Maybe my son will help. He doesn't remember a time when we didn't have her with us, and wanted to come with us to the vets .... I might have refused him had I known how traumatic it would be, but he is a wonderful boy and a great and loving support to me. (even if he did go off and get his eyebrow pierced yesterday!!!!)

OK. Deep breath. Get on with life!

Re: Another Canniversary ... and such a sad day

A big hole in your life now for sure. Was only here 6 months when I lost my old Collie Shonna....I know how you feel. Even though she was 15 years it was really hard. Waited a few months whilst we moved house etc, then got Nike. He was six months old and got him from the Ontario Border Collie Rescue Association. What a great little chap he is and now almost 4 years old.

27th of last month was my 4th Anniversary here in Canada and never regretted the move. Nike makes my family complete....so what I am saying is wait awhile...then think about another collie...to take over from where Kezzie left off. Yes, that may be hard to imagine possible...but trust me, it is. Nike is my third collie and all my dogs have led full, long and happy lives....we all win!

Best to you

Hugs morwenna - Im so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how deeply we feel for our pets, and its an absolute heartbreak when they're gone.

Here's a pic of our 3 year old golden lab named hunter, walking on gonzales beach - his very favourite - hope he cheers you up a bit!

Congrats on the third anniversary - well done!

So sorry to hear the sad news - I can only imagine how hard it must have been for you. I was in bits when I had to get on of my rabbits put to sleep and I'd only had her for a few months :(.

Our sympathies and best wishes.
