Default American version of the Eurovision Song Contest?

Obviously this weekend has the Eurovision song contest final coming up, but I was surprised to learn that an American version is apparently in the works called The American Song Contest.

Apparently it has entries from every US state plus Washington D.C., American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Makes me wonder if Canada and Mexico will be invited in future...
