American Netflix on Telus Internet
Sup team.
Now, i consider myself to be quite adept when it comes to computer related tech issues and never seem to have many issues with internet things, but this one has me stumped. Basically the way that most of the VPNs tell you to do it is to change the DNS server addresses to their numbers and hey-presto you appear to have a US location (or whatever country you choose). Now i've changed the DNS's on my devices (PS3, GS4 and Laptop) and it still keeps me in Canada...pretty sure its locating me in BC somewhere. So I was told you need to change the DNS's on the router, only problem being that Telus have those locked and you can't get into the settings on the admin panel. I found a link that is meant to take you to that panel as a Telus tech, but it just says "Access Denied". So has anyone in Western Canada successfully fooled their Telus equipment into giving them an American IP or am I snookered? |
Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
Might need a software solution. I've used BTGuard in the past (works great) but I don't think they have American locations. I'm sure there are plenty of options for a few dollars a month.

Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
We use unblock us and are on telus
It works fine Think its about 5 bucks a month |
Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
i signed up with blockless for a free trial, but their instructions don't work properly
Zoe, what settings did it require you to change? or is it software you run on your PC? |
Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
I second unblock-us. Their website is www.unblock-us.com. The easiest way is to set up the router, but if you have an ISP-supplied router (like you do) it is blocked by the ISP. So you just set up the devices with the unblock us dns servers, DL the netflix app and your good to go. And it is $4.99/month charged to your credit card. Any other questions feel free to let me know, as I have the service and enjoy it. You can also set your location to the UK and watch UK netflix.

Wot he said
Ben set it up Pm him if you want. But basically there's a webpage I access which allows me to change between us UK and Canada for our Netflix account |
Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
We use Hotspot Shied, don't need to change any DNS settings and it is $30 a year for UK and US locations.

Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
yeah we have it set up so that netflix on the xbox is Canada by default but the WDTV media box is set either to US or UK as we want.

Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
We use Unblockus and have it set up on the modem. Odd thing is that on my Android tablet the App store knows we are in Canada.

Re: American Netflix on Telus Internet
Unblockus is cheap and works

This is a good one too, I've used it in the past, but as far as I know it only works on the computer, so if OP wanted to stream netflix through his xbox or something to his tv, or his smartphone/tablet, Hotspot Shield wouldn't work, hence the recommendation for Unblock-us :)

Not a biggy for me as I don't buy from there but it has stopped me downloading a couple of apps I wanted. I guess the solution is to set up an account in that country but I can't be bothered. |
