Albertans $6 an hour better off True or False.

Well according to the Globe & Mail and the Bank of Montreal the wage gap between workers in Alberta and the eastern Provinces is now around $6 an hour.

I get paid the same regardless of where I work in Canada so it doesn't affect me.
Do Albertans feel they are making more than others or is it just more statistics not telling the whole story?

I have no idea how much I make an hour. It rather depends how many hours I work in any given pay period - the more hours I put in the lower my hourly rate, I suppose. I don't imagine this would be significantly different if I spent time in Alberta.

Do you not have location allowances or some other equaliser?

Only if working in Yellowknife, Inuvik or Iqaluit. Everywhere else same pay no other allowances.

If true, it could be viewed as a token financial compensation for having to live in Alberta.

If everyone I know was able to get a job in their home province for a mere $6 an hour less than they get here, Alberta would be empty. ;)

depends on how you would define "better off"

a couple of guys from my place went to BC to work in Richmond, for almost exactly the same wage they were getting here

they'll now be paying higher taxes, higher fuel costs and higher living costs, so they're not really going to be better off from a financial point of view

I wouldn't move Provinces for a raise of 1%;)

Depends on your priorities I guess.

We were more than happy to change province for a net drop in combined income of a few %. ;)
