Alberta snow storm - how are you doing?

Got up at silly o'clock this morning, as usual - showered, washed my hair, got all poofed and tarted for another day at the office. Belatedly looked out of the window.

Snow still coming in sideways outside, and I've just heard the third set of sirens go up the hill on the main road near my house.

Rockyview School District closed with no school buses - so I have left Daughter Number Two still snoring softly in her bed.

The dogs took one look out the back door and said "no way man". Desperation and bloated bladders will make them think again in a little while.

In the meantime, Daughter Number One is away on a school camp in Kananaskis, and is due home this afternoon. I have no idea when, where or how they will get back, and I don't know if there will be anyone at the school to even update us.

I love the Springtime in Alberta. :D

How are you other folks getting on? Lethbridge - have you been washed away?

20c with sunshine and a little cloud cover here in London, UK.

Snow? It's nearly May for crying out loud

"When it's springtime in Alberta,
And the gentle breezes blow,
About seventy miles an hour,
And it's fifty-two below

You can tell you're in Alberta
'cause the snow's up to your butt,
And you take a breath of springtime air
And your nose holes both freeze shut.

The weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I'll hang around,
I could never leave Alberta.
My feet are frozen to the ground
."

Mmmm!

After two weeks of 20+ degrees last May, we had snow on the 4th June last year ;)

It's not the quantity - it's the wind. So to speak.

At what point do you get bored of snow? I'm close.

I'm also putting off a ton of chores and housework I could be doing with this extra day at home. I might just go make a cuppa and catch up with some recorded episodes of Desperate Housewives.

No-one else has replied to this thread because:

a) they were sensible, turned over, and went back to sleep
b) they are still stuck in their car somewhere between their home and their office
c) they are bored talking about weather. Snow, shmo. Who cares? This is Canada, right?

:p

Well I have packed Mr Chookie off to work (he left his cellphone at home though) and the kids have just left to get the bus with my cellphone so that they can call me if the bus doesn't turn up.

I am a mean mummy and am not giving them the day off.

Me? I am not planning on leaving the house!

What I want to know is who is responsible for ordering all this white stuff?

I had my car booked in this morning to have the winter tyres off and the spring 'tune-up'. I called to re-schedule!

This snow is wet and blowing and I don't like it. Can't believe the kids were going to school in shorts last week!

meh, we were predicted for 20 or so cm of snow. Instead I had some light dandruff to clear off the windshield, horizontal sleet, and its not settling (luckily!) but its still raining and was bitterly cold hwen I walked down the hill to work (10 mins) - enough my hands are still tingly 20 mins later!

Hardly any snow in Calgary but it is quite windy. Fastest drive to work for a couple of weeks this morning. Can't complain though, it has been very nice for quite a while and the snow/rain will green up the brown grass.

Couldn't reply earlier as I was out trying to clear a ton of wet heavy snow off the drive!! All Foothills schools are also closed.

Yesterday morning I had lots of little daffodils flowering in my garden and the leaves of lots of other bulbs also coming up - this morning I can't see any of them and suspect they are all crushed under this heavy wet white stuff.

(And I had my winter tires taken off yesterday too!!)

Maybe in your part, Jim! We had about 8-10" up on the hill in Strathcona.
