Its a stupid title in the article - 'too drunk to fly', how drunk can you be to fly then?

Just go and have a drink or three with the pilot. That'll relax you.

On the whole, I've found Air Transat to be better than AC.

Hang on a minute, more recently, wasn't there a few BA pilots fired for being drunk?

You'd want to believe that the larger/national airlines would do a better job at screening 'drinking or being drunk on the job', perhaps even better at keeping it away from the media eh!

I'm sure a quick google will come up with similar (not just Transat) of those stressed/bored pilots or cabin crew that have alcohol related issues affecting them at the time of work, maybe even during a flight when they gulp more of it.

No different than any other workplace, Rail Freight drivers, HGV drivers, public transit drivers, right down on the factory shop floor machine operators to executive types that have the responsibility for 'taking care of business'.

I'm sure many have witnessed it - 'how many in your workplace are intoxicated (one way or another) that shouldn't be doing their job?

Would the OP incident affect me from taking a flight with any airline - of course not.

No I was making a joke about Air Transat if your post was in response to my comment.

No. I would fly Transat despite what I said in my last post.

I would take the view that it's just happened and so unlikely to happen again anytime soon. And I would continue to worry about other things. But this was not a worry that had ever crossed my mind before. My main worries are mechanical failure or similar.

The limit for pilots is 9 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath while for drivers it is 35.

Have a good session the night before an early flight and it would be very easy to still be over 9mg limit even after several hours sleep.

Because Air Transat is budget charter airline, I suspect they pay less and thus attract pilots that are less desirable to the major airlines. Luckily I don't have to fly with them.

They aren't actually that bad. So much cheaper then AC and unlike other big airlines like BA they actually allow you to take a snowboard/ski's on without paying extra money.

Any drunk passengers would not have got anywhere near the plane. Never mind being at the stage of being strapped in and almost ready to go
