"UK news

It will be the coldest New Year's Eve since 1996 - significantly colder even than Iceland.

Forecasters said temperatures would be below zero in most areas and could reach -6C in Edinburgh tonight."

<At least it'll keep the hoodies off the street>.

Ha. And bookmakers have cut the odds on the thames freezing tonight to 66/1. With the amount of evil in that water, I'd rather take the Elvis next PM bet.

Having lived in Edinburgh when the temp hit -8 and living in NW Ontario in temps down to -48, I'd take NW Ontario cold anyday ...

Totally crisp and dry - loved it ... even though I had incredible nosebleeds every time I blew my nose it was so dry!

Well if Hogmenay goes it's usual course, there'll be plenty of bloody noses in Edinburgh tonight too.

Actually, Hogmanay in Edinburgh is brilliant! The atmosphere is fantastic and everyone has a great time - never saw any fights or bloody noses any time I went!

Trish, you're ruining a perfectly good stereotype here. Large numbers of young people fueled by single malt, on the streets late at night and no blood?

You'll be telling me the country isn't going to the dogs next!

Was perfectly civilised and very pleasant where I lived ... wan't uncommon for me to walk down to the local shop in the village and leave my back door wide open to air the house while I was out!
Unlike many on here who have had very unfortunate experiences with the mindless chav scum in the UK, I never really witnessed or experienced it anywhere I lived.

As for "young people fuelled by single malt", I'm not sure the chav youth of Edinburgh can afford the stuff! Wouldn't be their tipple of choice ...more likely a can of Special Brew or two .... hehe!

But I digress off topic!

Errmm, cold? Speaking of which, I'm off to put the thermostat up a bit - been sitting here all day and now I'm feeling chilled.
Gotta get my dancin' shoes out for later ... get the blood circulating again, woohoo!

Surely those with hoods will be warm and thus still being rough and tough on the streets of Engurland :)
