VCMDLM is a favourite in this household.

It's much quicker than saying "va chier, mange de la marde".

One I use a lot at work is UBISS = Unreasonable Belief In Spreadsheet Syndrome, very widespread among graduate students these days.

I wouldn't worry - I didn't get much more than that either.

What about QFE (sometimes it is QFU).

or PIMP - a quilting site I used to use used that one a lot

Excellent guess. I would've expected something more like BBGSIS. But Bill Gates Says It's So.

I like DILLIGAF. The Mrs's favourite is FIGJAM.

In a previous work life we coined the acronym 'NGB'.....which was short for 'Nice guy, but.....' which was in turn short for 'Nice guy, but couldn't find his arse with both hands a map.' The cold winter days just flew by........

I thought he was close. But the point I was making is not that I don't appreciate Excel, (although I don't, I used to prefer Lotus 123 and now I use IGOR), but that students, grad and otherwise, usually don't exercise any critical skills in accepting the output of such things. "The spreadsheet gave me this result so it must be right: I am not going to actually think about whether or not it makes any sense before concluding that I haven't made some schoolboy error or other in telling it what to calculate, or how to go about it."

If being annoyed about this sort of thing makes me an old fart, then long live old farts, because when we're gone it is midnight.

LOL... I've been there. Me, looking at a page of obvious gibberish: "Errr... this can't possibly be right." Student: "I used the fitting routine in {program}".
Me: "Did you do any tests to make sure you are using the equations correctly?" Student:  Me: "Just looking at the data I can see that the Hill slope is about 1, your output claims it's over 5." Student: "But I used the fitting routine in {program}. Me: :curse::banghead:

Your use of graphics is exemplary. In text they are even better. Curse, confused, banghead sums it up nicely.

Hah. I'm a younger fart then because I got upset this week in a Marketing Class when a fellow but much younger student, presented an article entitled 'Pepsi to stop advertising' for discussion. The article was from 'The Onion', the student thought it was real. Disturbingly I was the only person in the class (including the Professor) who put up my hand and pointed out that the Emperor had no clothes........:frown:

And I agree with your point.

Ah yes, worshipping the god of Excel. I got racked off with one of my colleagues recently. In his snazzy spreadsheet model for price forecasts for two products, he confidently predicted that a 99%-pure compound would become cheaper than a 60%-pure version. This man has just been given an 8% pay increase.

Missed this earlier. Perhaps the well rewarded spreadsheet author has included the expenses involved with adulteration.

Ask dbd33 for details.

No. It's just a blind and rigid belief that all things can be tied to GDP and that GDP forecasts are an infallible predictor of demand and prices.
