We city folk shouldn't have to pay for roads out your way or ferries either. More people live in the LM, more money should be spent here on transit.

Depends on your income, for some it could be a financial burden, and there really isn't another bridge available unless you really go out of your way and the increased fuel use doesn't make sense.

As for translink tax, only regions served by translink see that tax, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and so on do not pay any direct taxes to translink, and translink sends buses all the way to Aldergrove and that is where the direct taxes end.

More to translink then just the sky train, they also pay for roads, some bridges, buses and who knows what else.

If one has the time, it's possible to get from Lions Bay ferry (anywhere in the Vancouver region actually) to Abbotsford on public Transit (excluding the WCE) but its a pain and very time consuming, but I have done it.

Take the sky train to Surrey, hop on the bus to Langley/Aldergrove get off at the last stop in Aldergrove, and wait there until Abbotsford transit arrives and take it the rest of the way.

Costs is $9 for the translink portion (you need a day pass) and 2.25 or something for Abby transit.

Just be aware you may wait a couple hours in Aldergrove for an Abbotsford bus to arrive (its not frequent) and I don't believe it runs 7 days a week either, so always double check.

Abbotsford/Mission is as far east as you can go on public transit (unless they have added a Abby-Chilliwack bus).

It is and the commute sucks.

I did West Mission to Broadway/Cambie area in Vancouver for a few months, and it was miserable, tiring, and just not worth it.

Also did Abbotsford to YVR which was slightly better, but still miserable.

If you gotta commute that far to just own a home, may as well just rent closer to work and eliminate the commute.

I'd rather rent..

I could never own in a strata, I cannot stand them let alone be stuck with one. If your going to have all sorts of rules and restrictions may as well just rent.

Now if I had kids, not sure I could live with kids + 2 adults in a condo.....way too small a space... ha ha

Wow a thread involving Hong Couverites complaining about something besides the rain
A very very minor piece of me feels sorry for you that live there and cannot afford to buy a home without a frustrating commute but hey you have the great views and scenery.

Great views? I always get depressed in Vancouver because it's so bloody obvious that you're stuck in a completely isolated place, separated from the rest of the world by great big mountains on two sides and the Pacific Ocean on the other.

I can't see the point of the place.

Why not try Quebec for some joie de vivre? And if you miss the ocean you've got Nova Scotia on your doorstep. :p

Fair enough. One man's meat is another man's poison. Or in Oink's case poisson.

Re: 700k budget

I am not sure I understand BC (Vancouver region in particular) being isolated, yes there is an ocean to the west and mountains to the east and north, and of course the US to the south, but you know there are roads that go through, up, over or what have you to get to the other side of the mountains.

Doesn't feel isolated to me in anyway. I felt more isolated in Ontario since it was so far away from the west coast.....:p and there was a giant lake to the south that you had to go around to get south.
