230v 50hz mechanical machine

Hello,
I wonder about taking a mechanical machine over to Canada, it is 230v, 50hz with a 120w motor ( it is a specialised sewing machine- portable blind hemmer) and I also have a coverstitch machine the same.-but 75 w motor.

Can I use a transformer with it- maplins say it has a 50/50 chance and it may run faster, that isn,t a great problem as I have a foot control to regulate the speed anyway.

Or Could I quite easily change the motor on it- the one on the blindhemmer is on the outside exposed, like a old sewing machine would have.
Should I change the motor when I get there, to 110v 60hz

I don,t wantt to take them to find they don,t work, as they are quite expensive , and don,t want to dump them.

Susan

Run them an a transformer, the speed thing depends on the motor type..some motors depend on the frequency to set the speed, so that type will be different as transformers dont affect the Hz. They wont run quite as efficiently, but its no biggie, and if a motor dies, as you say you can replace it with a local 120 60Hz one and keep on trucking.

I wouldnt sell them in your case if you are shiping a bunch of stuff over anyway.
