Re: 2014 Gas price moaning thread
We have 1 native owned station, but they always price match the big guys, so they pass no savings onto the public.
Every station in town is the same exact price 99% of the time, that 1% someone isn't, its always 145.9 everywhere, but someone will put up 145.8. That is about all the savings around these parts.
Makes me wish I was on the border still in Abbotsford, I'd go across and get gas, the city there is right on the border, go early or late in the day, and you can get across, get gas, and be back across in under 15 minutes.
At current prices and adjusting for the exchange rate, would save me about 20 dollars a tank, so 40-80 a month, not huge, but not small either for me.

My car back home was 1.3 but I don't think it was really much more efficient overall. The savings were in driving low distance and insurance.
To be honest if it was just me I'd get rid of the car. We probably pay about $450/mth total for insurance, gas, maintenance etc. I'd be able to function perfectly well with an $85 monthly bus pass and renting a car on a weekend occasionally if I had some longer distance to travel or was going to Big-Flatpack-Furniture-Store Incorporated for example. Of course, my wife sees things differently...

TBH I need a car for work as due to my hours public transit is not available all of the time even though I live in a decent sized city. A taxi one way would cost almost $50 and I work a 4 on 4 off so just one set of shifts would set me back $200. Taking transit back the other way and still paying $10 for 4 trips.
Of course we all become a bit lazier and if the car is on the drive or in the garage we tend to use it for journeys we could take transit or god forbid even walk

Our car is 1.6l. We drive greater distances and insurance costs more here.

Now we have a car simply for necessity, not a large city, transit is very limited, and no real way around not having a car as the transit is just not worth even using. Luckily its not a large town, so a tank of gas can last us 2 weeks if we don't go to Vancouver, so its not so bad, but if we had to fill up weekly or more often, I'd dump the car again.
I did buy a bike though and have been biking to work, work is only 2km away and on bike I can take a short cut, and its really not any faster by car.

Gas on the Island is still $1.39.9. I thought it might go back down after the Easter Break but - no.

Err.. It was 99 cents a litre in Pt Huron, MI last time we filled up the truck on the way home from florida
Its about 1.30 /l here in the GTA
Of course I could be paying €1.46 a litre in Malta. ($2.21 CAD / 1.19GBP) Also bad.

Went up to 146.9 today, first time ever I have had to pay over 70 dollars for a tank of gas, luckily it will last about 2 weeks, so its not frequent but I feel bad for those commuting to Whistler for work at these prices.
I could not imagine owning a large vehicle with a large tank if it cost 73 dollars for a Sunfire..

yeah, however it really doesn't like regular...and after reading a few posts on the owners forums, it appears its down to the Ethanol content of the regular grade gas
it actually tells you this in the owners manual, you're advised not to use gas with a high ethanol content (>10%). Regular 87 at the pumps here says it's 15% ethanol
when running it on regular, i get intermittent Check Engine Lights for catalytic convertor efficiency, but no such trouble when it's running on premium!
i was led to believe a few other Japanese manufacturers suggest this too, however, I can only comment on Honda/Acura!
