$564.25 To Renew a UK Passport in Canada

Is this a bad joke or did someone enter a typo on the passport renewals web page?

Which web page? I think you'll find that there are several.

Ah, good point. Looking at the print out I think the missus might have been looking at something called Immigroup Inc (based in Toronto). No doubt she googled passport renewal and it redirected her to these shysters.

I'll look into it. Thanks.

Ben says when he looked it was about $244
Including courier fee

Apparently the foreign and commonwealth office specifically tell you not to use one of these " services"

Always a good idea to blame the missus for your own incompetence.:)

Can you send it to rellies in UK and get them to do it? I am debating this - CIA it's cheaper ... Do we HAVE to send via Washington ?!

As opposed to £72/£81 (via PO) - approx $116/$130 (US) - done in UK.

In theory it can be done UK side but it might look a bit odd if claiming one has been resident in Canada and your passport was issued as if UK resident.

Also, if it goes missing after its issue, it could be a bit awkward reporting the circumstances of its loss.

It's a big price difference though. Maybe they should uprate UK pensions to pay for the extra.

For two passports perhaps?

Its about $250 from memory, but why not just go to the passport renewal site and check?

Not legally, by signing the UK form you are signing that you are resident in the UK at that time.

People have done it though. Iy you get selected for an interview you wont save anything:)

I find it incredible that there is now no facility in Canada to renew a UK passport. It's a commonwealth country for heaven's sake. My wife can get her German passport renewed right here in Ottawa with no problem at all.

Just pop down to DC and do it there and have a nice holiday. The consul staff are very congenial. Go in the spring time when the cherry blossoms are out and its not too hot. And entrance to all the Smithsonian museums, art galleries and the Zoo is all free and they don't even hassle you for a donation.

Well you do have a point I suppose. The Smithsonian museums are on my to-do list. Could be a nice 3-day trip.
They should still have a renewal office in Ottawa like before. Cheap b*st*rds.
