Pensioners in Malta?
Just wondering how are OAP's coping in Malta at the moment. Do you have a reasonable quality of lifestyle; and how much do you need per month to achieve this; if in rented property? Not necessarily in a 'prime' location.
Thanks,

Re: Pensioners in Malta?
Before the Euro was introduced here and fell the exchange rate was a lot better, it seems to have stabilised over the past few years with roughly a 12/15 cent loss to the £, this is probably the same for everyone in Eurozone but Malta is not as cheap to live in as it was, rental property is still at a very desirable cost, the government seem to consider 93 Euro a week income sufficient proof of income for a married couple to achieve ordinary residency so i guess they must consider this adequate to survive on.

Re: Pensioners in Malta?
Seems far too little to survive on to me. What would be the average cost with rent included say over a month?
What are costs to leave the island like? Does sound to be a possible retirement option.
Do many retire there full time or more of a summer get away sort of place.

Re: Pensioners in Malta?
The Troubadour, rents are fairly cheap in Malta and there are thousands of empty properties waiting, an average price would be around 350 euros a month for a three bedroom apartment, obviously there are more expensive and the choice is there, no council tax so really just electricity and water are the only other regular bills, your own standard of living would dictate your other outgoings but most things are reasonably priced. If you want to get info on residence go to "www.gov.mt" Change the language to English and type immigration to Malta in the search box, select the residence section and click on the form your circumstances would require, self sufficient cea/l/7 is the one i believe you would need and gives all the requirements, all the information you need is on the site, hope you find what your looking for.

To answer your other question, yes, there are plenty of Brits retiring to Malta, i have been surprised at how many Brits are appearing in recent years.
